I would think this person didn't have far to go but the police should have ticketed him for being a danger to everyone on the road.

He is most likely one of their approved contractors stopping in for job supplies! Chris

It'd be different if "getting the job done" didn't involve putting so many other people on the road at risk. We aren't talking about a safety violation that would injur just him (like not wearing a helmet). If this combination ever seperates, it could go right into a school bus!
I don't care if he kills himself - that's Darwinism.....but if he kills someone who didn't have a say in his decision to do something this stupid, that's called murder (or minimally manslaughter).

Many times in life you just have to get the job done. Probably the only truck the guy has...and it seems to being the job. I'm sure he doesn't care on bit what all the internet towing gurus say.

There are some situations in life where you have to what you have to do....but sitting there all smug calling him stupid seems to be the popular thing to do. I see rigs like this all the time, and mostly it is someone with no other options but to to the job. I have never felt that they were a danger to me. Been there done that.

Wow... sorry, but I couldn't disagree with you more. Don't want to be contrary and argumentative. Sometimes you do have to get the job done, but in this case, if you can't afford the right truck for the job, switch jobs. No question about that. Period. End of discussion.

I might hook onto that trailer with that truck to move it across my yard temporarily, but NEVER EVER take it down any public road. The need for money or a quick job isn't an excuse for stupidity. The tires aren't made for it, the wheels and axles aren't. The truck can't stop it, and even a distracted mom slamming on her brakes in a minivan full of kids just ahead of it at a stoplight can't stop it.

Never, ever, ever, take something that drastically under-rated down the road. Ever. Payload and axle ratings aren't the same thing.

Out of country plates?

I really hate to say but it was not out of country. The plates showed the truck was registered in Montana. The reason I hate to say it if you notice I'm from MT also but I don't do things like this. I want to make sure I have enough if not more truck than is needed for the job, My wife could not believe it either.

When I was taking the pictures another fellow walked up and pulled his phone out to take pictures also. He said that he had family in trucking and they would not believe this either so was sending them the pictures also.

I guess that growing up on a farm taught me both sides. I surely would pull this had I need to do so...at =maybe= 25-30 mph and for short distances only. I =have= done this, even when I was 15, but that was long enough ago, that there usually wasn't much traffic to bother with and roads around here were open enough to be able to see who/what was coming a long way away. I'd sure not put a hitch in a 1/2 ton these days, though, so that would take care of a lot of the issue for me. This guy looks like he does this as a regular thing and that's what's bad about it.

Moving something down a side back road between farm lots or jobs at 20 MPH is marginal- maybe.... but on the highway or city streets with traffic is just ignorant. If you defend this person driving this disaster on the road then you just stepped on the pedestal with him... period, there is no excuse for this stupdity no matter how bad you "have to get the job done". Call a buddy with a bigger truck, get a smaller trailer and make two trips, rent a U-haul, etc etc.

Totally dumb, but he ain't the only one. On my trip to Texas from Alabama, I witnessed two examples as dumb as this one. One was a tall Dodge and the 5th wheel looked like it was running on the rear two wheels only. He was moving along pretty good but in the opposite direction. The other one was basically the same situation as the one posted in that it was a 1/2 ton pulling a very large 5th wheel. The front wheels looked like they weren't even touching the road.

If anybody finds a stash of COMMON SENSE, please share with everyone. It appears to have totally disappeared from the planet.

Curt
