Heres the deal.
My tire dealer sold me 4 Goodyear Marathons 2 years ago and I paid for full replacement insurance. They are 235/80R16E (10Ply). I have had to replace 3 of the original 4. One was a sidewall puncture, 2 were defects. The tire dealership is now telling me they cannot get me a Marathon replacement and has offered to replace all 4 Marathons with 235/80R16E (10Ply)Carlisle tires FREE of CHARGE.
Is this a "Good deal", "Bad deal" or a "Fair exchange".
I have to make the call by 5/4/11 so if you can help me choose, I'd appreciate your comments.
Actual experience trumps personal opinion.

Sounds like a good deal, I mean free is free.
You'll most likely have the same problems though.
Might use the search feature for " Carlisle ". Many real life experience's there.

We've heard a lot of bad reports on Carlisle tires... however, four brand new ones in replacement of four bad Marathons sounds like a good deal. Is there any way you can get him to swap out the Marathons for a 4-set of Maxxis??
I originally had Marathons on my TT and put about five years and 20,000 miles on them without any type of failure prior to swapping them out for Maxxis.
Carlisles....??? Well, lots of bad reviews, but if that's all they will do for you... go for it. Just check the date code and make sure they're not more than six months old. Could be hold backs because nobody wants them.

I started with Goodyear Marathons and after many blowouts switched to Carlisle. The Carlisles blew out just like the marathons. Gooodyear and Carlisle allways replaced the tires and paid for any damage from the blowouts.

Free Carlisle's are not a good deal in my book. I would much rather pay for even a suspect tire brand rather than use any more Carlisle's. Or better yet, just get a set of Maxxis.
My story: 5 Carlisle's came with my TT. 3 suffered slipped belts (1 while laying in the back of my truck) and 2 blew out (1 at 40 mph, 1 at 50 mph). Tires were far from being overloaded and always aired up to max PSI before every trip and never run at speeds above 65 mph.

Personally as I have said before, I would not put Carlisle tires on ANY road going vehicle, even if they paid me!

Sure take the free Carlisle's if they will fit your wheelbarrow!!! Otherwise offer to pay the difference for either a set of Maxxis or any number of quality LT tires that will give you the confidence to tow without worry that they may POP around the next curve.
Going from Marathon's to Carlisle's is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire.

Not a good offer. Sometimes "Free" is too expensive. I had Carlisles on an 10,400 GVW Equipment Trailer for awhile. No good.
