Hey all,
Went to go check the batterys pre-trip and the strap just crumbled in my fingers! Its not that critical of a strap because the plastic tabs are functional at this point.
Has anyone had this problem and what did you replace it with? I'm thinking leather straps or maybe just more heavy duty / outdoor fabric strap? Has anyone lost a lid by not having it strapped?
(note the top part of the strap where you would go to undo the strap)

My plastic clip/buckle broke in half after 2 years on our old unit. I replaced the whole strap with a rubber bungee...no worries after that.

I found some nice straps from a local Army surplus store that are a woven strap like these but heavy duty and they hold up a lot better. They also have clips that are easier to release when needed. Maybe you can find something like that. I would post pics, just dont have any and cant find where I put the straps when I took off the batteries for winter.

I was thinking rubber bungee cords too, but i kind of like the strap idea for looks, not that it really matters there...
I guess a thrift shop would be viable too for belts... matching aligator belts haha.

Look in your closet. Everyone probably has old leather belts we have not used in years. Just don't take one from your DW.

We were going camping one time with a bunch of friends and my buddies camper battery strap ripped will on the interstate and the battery box lid came flying back underneath the camper.

I used left over webbing and attached stainless snaps. Cheap and works.

I am kind of more interested in the weatherability of other options like a leather belt material, would that be more "rot" resistant? Or would i find myself rubbing them with waterproofer? The current straps are only a year old
I avoid our local Wal-Mart like they all have swine flu.
