We put ours out if needed. Sometimes it is out for several days, sometimes we don't put it out at all.

I would love to use it every time we are out, but it just isn't possible. What part of WY???

I try for shady spots so, no need. Plus I'm usually running solo--it's a pain to manually put out and retract. If conditions warrant, it'll be out, but not very often.

"why not use it today?" - because I am too short to open it! I have to pull out the large bucket to stand on, unlock the arm, move the bucket, unlock the other arm, move the bucket again, pull down the awning, move the bucket, engage the top arm, move the bucket, engage the other top arm, lift one side, move the bucket, lift the other side, move the bucket, you get the picture

We have different reasons and sometimes we do put it out.
#1 I don't want to put it out and you can't make me
#2 Wind
#3 We are not around much to use it
#4 Cool enough outside we don't need it
#5 We just don't feel like messing with it

I think awnings are way overrated. It seems like when you need them most(during rain) you can't be sure that a gust won't come up and destroy it (expensive)and I am seldom comfortable leaving the campsite any period of time with it out. Sometimes we do put ours out to shelter from the hot sun but I still won't go away and leave it out.

Putting out the main awning is just a matter of pushing a button and the wind sensor (which automatically retracts the awning and can be set for several different wind speeds) seems to work very well. Still, I don't put it out all that often because the main awning on my MH is pretty high off the ground and only provides shade under limited conditions, plus it provides little protection from the rain if there is any wind at all.

My previous (older) Class A had a manual awning that was a PITA to put in and out, but it was much lower and much more effective at being an awning.

I don't put ours out very frequently. We are sightseers and doers...we don't camp just to sit around under the awning and I won't leave it up if we aren't close by...thunderstorms pop quick and we may be 100 miles away. We get up, get dressed and go out...sightseeing, biking, hikiing, whatever rocks us at the moment. We get back when we're tired and the sun us usually low enough that the awning is pretty much useless for shade and as some have mentioned, windy, rainy evenings aren't condusive to sitting around trying to stay out of the damp spray. If it isn't raining in the evening or the sun is low, what do I need the awning out for? To be honest, as another said, if it hadn't come with the trailer, I don't think I would have paid extra to have it added. In fact, the last time I had it deployed, I had to get up at 2:15 am to bring it back in during a stiff wind that had come up sometime after midnight.
My 2 cents, your mileage may vary...

I use mine 98% of the time. Only bring it in for wind issues which is rare in Florida
