Will the auto-start work when the house batt system gets low.

Thanks Danwes

Like harold1946 explained. If properly programmed the AGS will not let the battery bank get low. The genset will autostart to charge the batteries. Provided there is more than 1/4 tank of fuel in the coach.

I have this unit on my coach and think it is a great product. Love manually starting the genset by pushing a button on the remote. Cool. I haven't had to set mine on auto yet but it's nice to know I can if I need to.

I recently purchased and installed the Cummins/Onan EC-30W AutoStart to my Onan QD 7500 generator. It was really easy to install. I also purchased the wiring harness pigtail which really made the job simple. I had to get down under the coach at the rear of the generator to attach one wire and I had to make a decision as to where I wanted to mount the controller. Those were the two most difficult tasks of the installation.
The setup was a snap. After setup I simulated a campground power outage. I was plugged into shore power and had an air conditioner running. I created a temperature set point on the EC-30W that was cooler than the ambient temperature and set the EC-30W to “Auto”. The generator will not start if shore power is detected so I went into my garage and flipped the breaker for the shore power to Off. Within about a minute the generator started up and the air conditioner soon followed. The system has several other nice features but sensing the loss of the shore power and starting the air conditioning units were our main concern.

Prior to installing the EC-30W we were concerned about our pets staying comfortable in the event of a power outage at the campground if we were not at the site. Needless to say, we are not concerned any more. This is really a sweet system.

This sounds like a nice feature but in 42 years of RVing I can not recall ever being in a CG with a power failure. How often does this really happen?

Happened to us in August a couple years ago at a campground in Ohio. No auto-start for us but after being without electricity for about 15-20 minutes, I hooked up the generator to keep the A/C going and kept it running for about 3 hours until the power was restored.

Will the generator shut off when the camp power comes back on ? Could you give me a part number or web site where you got the kit ?

Thanks,
John

Yes, it will run for 10 minutes after the power is restored and then stop.

I purchased mine from RV Parts Mall in Sarasota, Florida 941-359-3001 ask for Dave. The Onan part number for the EC-30W is 018-3000 and the cost is $499. The part number for the wiring harness for a diesel generator is 044-00088 and is $50.

You probably won't find the parts on their website but here it is.

Does the AGS take into account the the necessary priming that must be done before starting, if the generator hasn't been run in a while?

If we're talking about a diesel generator here, it shouldn't need to be primed, unless it was fuel-starved due to fuel filter change or running out of fuel. My AGS just starts right up when the voltage drops to the set level. I also have it set to kick on at 80 degrees, but haven't tested that function.

According to the manual it says "To start, Gas/LP gensets take up to typically 18 seconds of cranking while Diesal gensets take 30 seconds of cranking. If the generator does not start on the first time , EC-30W waits 30 seconds before re-crank."

You could also contact Cummins/Onan at 1-800-888-6626

Love mine, it saves a bunch by letting you shut down and run on the inverter then it comes on when needed. Especially useful at night in cold weather. You don't have to run the gen all night you just let it come on when needed to charge batteries.

Same with summer heat, you can set it for any temp you want and it will come on automatically so the AC can run.

I boondock alot and would not be without one.

Friend had a Rv sitting at a park in South Texas on the coast. Power went out when he was away for a week. There were fish in the freezer!!! nasty.

I did have to move the remote from the back to the front of the coach so it would not loose communication with the Gen Set. And you have to remember to set it to auto, when you move it shuts off as a safety feature.

I found the best price at PPL Motor Homes in Houston.

An RV'r is someone driving a $300,000.00 Motorhome pulling a $40,000.00 car and looking for a free place to park.
