After many years of going to Savannah I'm not sure I want to go back...We went last wednesday and it was so crowded plus the campground on Tybee Island has become so high priced I can get a hotel room cheaper-Of course I know some will say to each his own preferences...Anyhow campgrounds were so high priced and there was so many people it was hard getting around...We had to leave Savannah to stay in a Walmart since Savannah City Law restricts rv'ers from saying in Walmart parking lots...Also no dogs are allowed on the beaches anywhere on the island...Anyhow it was a miserable trip trying to be in a city that didn't want you there unless you are willing to spend a bundle of money-any why not if there are going to be that many revelers at the St Patricks day festivities-someone will...In fact there was rv after rv headed there when we come back up I-16 toward macon.

I'm confused. What makes you think they didn't want RVs there, other than they won't let you camp free at WalMart? After all. It was just as crowded for the non RVer's.
As for the no dogs on the beach, again, the same for non RVer's, and a good idea IMOP.
As for the CGs. Were they full, or did you just not want to pay their price? Which you have every right not to do. Just as they have the right to charge what the market will bear.
I really don't see your problem, other than you just didn't like the big crowds, and didn't want to pay their CG price.

Checked the rates at the Tybee Island Campground and it had a maximum price of $59.50 for full hookups on a holiday weekend. Checked the hotels on Tybee Island for next weekend and the rates started at $129.00. Unless math has changed since I went to school, 59 is less than 129. In my travel experience, dogs are allowed on beaches less than half the time. Mostly for good reasons. Believe it or not there are people that do not clean up after them and there are also people who like to walk barefoot and play in the sand. Can't say dog pee and doo doo makes that a better experience. If not being allowed to overnight in a Walmart is how RVers should judge entire cities, call me a rebel. I don't care, I will visit towns I find interesting that don't allow Wally docking and I will steer clear of Wally Docking towns that I don't find interesting. Savannah is a really neat town, and I hope to visit it several more times before I croak. And Walmart doesn't factor into the decision.

River's end isn't everyone's cup of tea.
Many of the site's have obstacles which make having slideout's difficult. Some sites aren't particularly laid out very well...and aren't very level.
If you get there before the crowd...you get a good spot...if you follow them in your sight might be just terrible.
They have some interesting bath houses...not sure an architect had anything to do with their design...but they work out okay. Pool is nice. The screened in patio with big screen TV appears to be a favorite place to hangout when the Georgia Bulldogs are playing...
Hey it's Savannah...better yet it's Tybee Island. It's quaint. You gotta go because you love to see the lighthouse, the beach, the Fort, the smell of marshland during low tide, the beautiful sunset sitting at a dockside restaurant. The wonderful fresh seafood. The colorful shrimp boats in the river.
I'll go back...and suffer paying a little bit more for an opportunity to relax low country style.
I like the people in Georgia too... even when it's crowded...they're just down right friendly!
Sorry you had a bad time...

Savannah has one of the largest St. Patrick's Day celebrations in the country. Some years it is nearly impossible to get a place to stay without reservations months in advance. We visit Savannah just about every year on our way to or from Florida, but have learned to avoid the time around St Patrick's Day.
Safe travels!

What about Skidaway SP? Great rates, great sites, hookups, showers, quiet and 20 minutes to town.
If I get to the point I have to stay or stop at Wal-Mart or rest areas I figure I need a less expensive hobby. It slays me when people drive/tow an RV worth tens of thousands of dollars and then expect some corporation to provide them with FREE parking! JMHO, of course.

You were in Savannah for the St Patricks day festivities and you are complaining about the crowds? You need to think about that one. Also there are 2 Ga State parks nearby which are very reasonable, both are nice. Perhaps you should plan a little better next time.

I have stayed there twice. Only a few miles to the bridge that brings you in to town. If I recall, it did not have a laundry or maybe showers. Can't remember. We seldom use laundry facilites and never the showers.
