As has already been stated, if you're going to one spot for the whole winter, the post office will just forward it to that address.
If, however, you're going to be moving around, what we did was have a neighbor hold our mail and send it in a package to "General Delivery" at a post office in a town we knew we were going to be staying in for a few days. We picked up our mail every week or so, but each time from a different post office.

So they just send it to General Delivery C/O "your name", then you show up, provide I.D. and they give it to you? That sounds like the simple solution for us next year. Thanks.

Make sure it's a small town with only one zip code and one post office. Otherwise it could end up in a central routing office.

Yep. It worked out fine for us. The package with our mail would be addressed to us, C/O General Delivery, East Podunk, LA, 99999, and we'd just pick it up at the PO. The next week, (or month)it would be a different town. And, as Mockturtle stated, best to use post offices in small towns......they're much easier to deal with. The neighbor would use those flat-rate envelopes or boxes, depending on how much mail had accumulated, and just wait for us to let her know which town to mail it too. It usually took only a couple days to arrive.

I know that this doesn't apply to the OP's situation, but we have my sister-in-law check the mail about once a week. If it looks important, she will scan it and e-mail us a copy.

Works ou great.

Caution , when using general delivery, BEFORE you have it sent to the PO whereever you want, CHECK with the POffice there to make sure they take GENERAL DELIVER. Many dont, but will give you the nearest PO that will take GENERAL DELIVERY.
