A turbo engine always has a higher BSFC number that a N/A engine. The EB has more HP than the engine you have now. If you use that HP it WILL burn more fuel.
The best thing about the EB is it will get good mileage when solo. A solo truck does not need much HP to maintain 55mph. This is where the EB will shine because of it's little 6.
If you want some super mileage when towing with the EB I think your going to be dissapointed.

I expect the same fuel economy as any other half ton engine towing the same TT. The benefits of fuel economy are when off boost, non towing. Some slight benefit may come because of all the available torque across a wide engine speed range, so peak boost may not be required.
The facts are this engine has been on dealer lots for about two months. Just not many owners out there, let alone broken in, towing TT's for whole tanks yet.

I would like to see some real world towing with the EcoBoost rather than a lot of speculation. Anyone actually towed any long distances with the EB?

Silence speaks louder than words.
I'm certain the ford engineers know the answer and I think we can assume the mpg gain will be negligible at best. If they were getting a reliable 20% better milage towing (10mpg to 12mpg say), they would be trumpeting it from on high as another reason to give up the V8 for towing.

i'll let you know if a few months once i get some towing under my belt with the EcoBoost. I think towing mileage will most likely be similar to the powerfull V8's out there like the 5.7 Iforce, 6.2 Chev or 5.7 Hemi and slightly better while solo.
The EcoBoost is quite fast solo too:
here's one similar to mine:

The engine/transmission programming could make it more efficient if the turbo is super durable. The higher torque at lower rpm's could be programmed to keep you in a higher gear much longer. Basically it would then pull like a turbo-diesel. 1500 rpm's in 6th gear at 70 mph going up a mtn. The gain would be from lower rpm's and therefore less mass spinning faster...

x2. Not enough 3.5 EB trucks out there towing yet -- I'm not doubting them yet.
But I do not think towing mpgs are going to see a big increase. I see the value of that drivetrain being it will tow great when asked to, and will get better mpgs unloaded when not towing. Only time will tell -- I'm sure by mid-summer, we'll have plenty of information on how this new engine does with a TT behind it.
