Im planning a 2 week vacation to Yellowstone from St Louis Mo. area. The night we leave we are gonna push for St. Joe Missouri. Saturday we are going to head up to Mitchell SD and stay in Cabelas lot. Sunday I was wanting to take my family to Wahl drug and possibly the corn palace, can I do both in a days time and still make it to Rapid city SD by bed time. I was also wondering if Wahl drug had parking for our 33' 5th wheel and truck.

as I've said before here, IMHO Wall Drug is nothing more than an overgrown wal-mart, flea market, yard sale and I wouldn't waste the time. the Corn palace was interesting when I was there since there was a big polka convention/contest going on. But basically the CP was just a drive by and look at it unless some activity you are interested in is occurring.

Would not recommend either Wall Drug or Corn Palace, especially when time is limited.

For sure. Skip them both. I had the worst overpriced breakfast ever at Wall Drug. Their famous ice water is a tiny little cup, everything else they hose you on. The corn palace is maybe worth an hour, max.
Don't even stop in Wall. Just go on over and spend some time in the Badlands. That's worth doing.

We liked Wahl Drug (best hot roast beef sandwich you will find and a glass of water) but the Corn Palace was something else, just drive by it.
You'll spend a lot of time behind the wheel but enjoy the sights.

I like in SD. Drive by Corn Palace to see the corn murals on the side of the building. No reason to stop and go inside.
I agree Wall Drug not worth the stop unless you like the WalMart flea sale type of thing. Your time would be better served driving through the Badlands and taking a hike if its not too hot out. If you must stop because the kazillion billboards make you think you need to, yes, there is room for parking your rig.
You didn't say what time of year. 90% of people who visit the Badlands drive through but don't stop for a hike. Weather permitting the stop and hike is worthwhile.

We went to both places two years ago. I agree with the others - you only need to see the outside of the Corn Palace - there's nothing to do or see inside. And if you're there earlier in the summer, you won't see much at all, because they work during the summer to get the designs done for late August. We parked our 28 foot MH in a lot near it - I believe there's a bus/RV lot.
We went to Wall Drug, mainly because my parents stopped there on their honeymoon in 1965, so I wanted to say I went there too. It's just shops and places to get something to eat. We did like the donuts there, but if I were going by again, I'd skip it. I believe there's an RV lot there too.
You can do both in a day driving through the state.
Do not miss the Badlands - that turned out to be one of the most beautiful parts of the trip for us, and we went to Yellowstone, the Tetons and Glacier. To see it near sunset is amazing.

We live in St. Joseph. We went to Rapid City two years ago and will be going again in June regardless of the price of fuel. Heck, that is what we bought this thing for.
The corn palace is worth seeing at least once. It should take you no longer than one hour to see and appreciate it. By the way, they have a drive-in movie theatre in Mitchell and we went there our last trip since we didn't have anything else to do.
Wall Drug: If you have never been there you should go. It is not the most wonderful place you have ever been, but if you don't go you will always wonder. I also agree with the others that it is a waste of time, but I am glad we went. We found parking for our 35' motorhome towing our car.
We left Mitchell on a Saturday morning, did Wall drug and the Bad Lands and made it to between Rapid City and Sturgis in plenty of time. I drive about 60. If you have never been, by all means go through the Bad Lands.
In my opinion, this is a great trip. Enjoy!

Have stopped at both. Not much to see. As stated above, take a drive through the Badlands. Get an early start. Plenty of time to make it to Rapid City.

Wall is a fun place to stop and they do have rv parking. Our daughter lives in Rapid City so we stop every trip at Wall. It is just a tourist trap but still fun and a welcome break from the long boring drive across SD. By all means don't miss the Badlands. The Corn Place is a one time see type of thing. There are other tourist traps along the way such as the Auto muuseum in Murddock and the 1880's ghost town. They are all a part of Americana and are just part of the fun things to do on a cross country trip. Pick and choose as your time allows and enjoy a great trip.
