I couldn't believe it.My Father-N-Law came by today and ask us if we had the infromation about our summer beach trip.I told him sure, what do you need to know?He said well the way fuel keeps going up it doesn't look like we will go.My D/W and I said maybe you want but we sure are going.I did the math for him and it will be appox.$60 too $80 more in fuel, and this is for round trip.I then ask him if hes going too cancell a trip for less than $100?We have to plan this @ least 11 months in advance due to the C/G getting booked quickly. The C/G is 240 miles one way. Were not rich by any means but if I was concerned about the additional cost in fuel then I would not go out and eat as much.We try and camp mostly locally, with 2 trips per year lasting a week each, which is usually to the beach and the mountains.I know things are costing more and more but its a vacation! Now if I was unemployed then things might be a little different.

It is a matter of priorities - apparently this trip is more important to you than to him. You will find a lot of he older generation would use the same logic, I think. You gave him the right answer, IMHO.

I wouldn't let $60-$80 more keep me from doing a trip. Even a $100. We are planning a trip that is 950 miles each way for May. Gas prices are definitely affecting that trip. We are still going, but are changing further trips throughout the summer to closer destinations to accomodate gas prices.
It's all about advance planning and budgeting. That's how we make it work anyway.

I whole heartedly agree with you Mking and for the first responder for noting the priority/importance of the trip. We have friends that have a motorhome but they use it probably once a year because "it's cheaper to drive and rent a hotel with the price of gas the way it is." RV'ing and the pleasure one gets out of it is a lifestyle. We're not going to let the middle east control our lifestyle. We will still go and enjoy.

This sounds like a knee-jerk reaction rather than thinking it thru as you did. I don't plan to cancel any plans due to fuel cost since I never know how many more years I'll be able to RV. I don't plan to let Libya affect my vacation!

It may not be just the $60 or $80 in extra fuel on the trip. Some people like myself are coming up a little short all the way around because of spending more on fuel, grocerys, etc. before vacation time. We will cut back where we can to still make our vacation happen.
