There is a green residue around the exhaust chamber of my Dometic refrig. Also the ac 5 amp fuse keeps blowing. The refrig does not work on ac or gas. Any suggestions?

At the chance of sounding flippant, which I really don't want, I think you should call a repair man! None of the things you say are good, I can't imagine why you are even asking this question! If you have a warrantee it should be covered.

Your cooling unit has taken a dump and must be replaced ASAP. Turn the unit off, both gas and A/C, and don't run it intil you can get it repaired.

The residue you see is the "refrigerant" from the cooling unit that has leaked out.

Cooling unit is done for. From an online vendor:

Another thing to look for, if you unit is not cooling but you don't smell ammonia inside the box, look for a yellow powder around or just above the burner located at the back of the unit. This would indicate a leak in the boiler section. Since this leak is outside the box you would rarely smell it inside. I see these boiler leaks more frequently in the newer Norcold and Dometic cooling units.

At this point, you must decide whether you want to replace the cooling unit ($$) or opt for a new refrigerator ($$$$)!!

The 5amp fuse is for the 120vac Heating elements. One of them is shorted out internally maybe. Very hard to replace without Frig removal. The Green stuff dripping from burner area of Frig means you will be breaking out the greenstuff from your pocket mostly likely. But, maybe your Dometic Model is on their Recall List. Try looking here

Model number should be on inside front Frig door. If,you are a DIY type try searching Net for replacement Coil assembles they cost about 1100+usd.

I just replaced our NDR1292 Frig it barely fit through the Coach door.
Peace of mind having a new Frig for another 10 years hopefully.

Happy Tails to ya and good luck,

We had to replace the 1992 cooling unit in our Norcold last summer. It is not a hard job but being the first time added stress.

We did it on the sofa because I can not bend. The Amish option worked out well for us. I think it was $400 net.

I had to replace the cooling unit on one of our campers a few years ago. It was an easy job just follow the instructions and take good photographs before you take the ref apart (help is re-assembly). We purchased our cooling unit from Big Pine RV. Rebuilt units with the same thin wall tubing (the stuff that cracks was around $400 (depends on model) but a brand new one with thick wall tubing was around $600 and had I think a 5 year guarantee with something that extended to 10 years.

Speaking from personal experience I can tell you that even if yours IS on the "recall list" it's going to cost YOU for repair or replacement......Dometic will not honor anything but the warranty....lousy customer service but I guess Norcold is the same way so the consumer is left"holding the bag"...IMHO, of course
