I just got back from Walmart and they had Shell Rotella T5 10W30 on sale for $11.50 a gallon, regular $16 a gallon. I have always used Rotella 15W40 year round but I think I am going to switch to T5 10W30 for the winter.

Best make sure that oil meets Ford specifications for your truck. I don't know if it does or doesn't.

Any special reason you want to make the switch? I usually go with the ol' "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

Please post if you see the T6 on sale since I need 8-10 gallons to winterize.

I think the 10W30 will be better for the engine during the coming cold months vs the 15W40. I usually plug mine in if the temp is going to be below 10F and I have never had any trouble but the book does call for 10W30 for the temps we see here in Ohio during winter.

That is the reason we standardize on the T6 to get the 5W-40 when cold starting might be done. The Synthetic feature is a plus too in my book.

I would be real careful about using thin oil in your 6.4. It's already got an oil thinner called a "regen" on that engine.
