Lets see...120 into 5kw=41.7 amps...40 is close enough...inverter inefficiency.
If you have 2 duplexes that would be 20 per.
Is that not ok?

Hi,
Looks like I'll be pulling out the 5000 watter. It runs the microwave (1591 watts) just fine--but it immediately faults on the air conditioner (960 watts) . I really don't understand why. It is supposed to do a surge for 1 second of 15000 watts. It runs the heat strip just fine, so this is not a watts issue but more probably a surge issue.
It displays 59.5 hertz with an idle voltage of 111.
With the Cobra the idle voltage is higher but the hertz are 15. The Cobra seems to run the air conditioner with ease--but simply sometimes shuts down when I try to run the microwave.

Mr.Pianotuna,
Was everything else off when you tried the air including the charger?
Can you turn the A/C fan on before the compressor?
Seems it should run it.
How is the inverter wired to the A/C?

Just saying.

How big is the 12v connection?
My Prosine1800 says 250MCM recommended, 4/0 minimum or surge performance is limited.
How certain are you that each outlet is not limited to something less than 5000w?
Note in the ebay pics they show max load as 1800w.
I would suggest an inverter made to be hardwired.

Hi smkettner,
Yup *red faced grin*.
Here is what happened with the Cobra 2500 watt. About once in ten times the microwave would simply shut down the inverter for about 2 seconds. It wasn't much of an issue as I rarely use the microwave. But...I thought a pure sine wave unit would be "better" for all the motors in the RV. The new inverter runs everything but the air conditioner. Weird is all I can say.

Hi Storm,
Yes, I turned everything else off. I also tried spinning up the fan on the air conditioner.

I think you said it has two duplexes?
You might be getting only 20 amps to the air...but at that even..it should run it.
I can run mine off of 15 if nothing else is on when I'm plugged into my garage.
I'm still not sure how you have it wired.

Hi Storm,
The outlets are "cross wired" so yes each outlet can, in theory, provide the entire output of the inverter.
