I just get a suitable length bungie cord, wrap it around the battery box and top, and hook the ends together. Every now and then I replace the bungie cord (they're cheap).

X2 and unhooking to pull the top off to disconnect is easy. Those straps are almost as difficult to unhook as a bra strap.

the nylon straps are really polyester. Nylon stretches and is used for lifting. Polyester is lower in stretch and used for tying down, as is polypropylene. The push down releases are 'csm buckles'

Never thought of wool as a tiedown that would tolerate acidic environments. Guess it is because the WSTDA doesnt recognize it as an approved product.

My strap failed after 2 years. Replaced with rubber bungee. Much easier to remove and replace when checking battery than original strap.

I see boats every now and then with the rear mounted battery not very well secured… I always wondered about them…

Yep, B&D Battery Locking Clamp is what I use. Works very well, no sun rot.
