So over the past couple of trips the propane detector chirps intermittently. It sounds just like a smoke detector with a low battery. At first I thought it was the smoke or CO detector but I pulled both of those out (while we were up an about) and narrowed it down to the Propane detector. Our detector is located just inside the entry door. I shut off the propane and left the door open with just the screen closed and it would still chirp every once in a while. It is intermittent, it could go several hours before it chirped or it can chirp several times in a few minutes. I pulled the detector and it has a manufacture date of 3/2007. I contacted MTI and they said it is probably defective and out of warranty. The woman said they should last about ten years (from other posts it doesn't seem others have gotten ten years out of theirs). I was on shore power and the battery meter at the panel displayed 4 lights (full) but I checked the voltage at the detector wires with a DVM and had 12.9 volts. Anyone else have this type of problem with a propane detector? I searched the archives but didn't find anything similar. It looks like I need to buy a new one for my 2008 TT.

We bought our TT new in 2004 and I've replaced the Propane detector twice. Once in 2007 and also this year. The symptoms were the same as you report. We keep our camper at home plugged into 30 amp service all season, so the detector is active alot longer than storing it with the battery power off.

Mine did that too. Since the detector is situated low on the wall near the floor I never really looked at it.
The propane detector will also chirp if it detects low voltage. If your battery is low and/or the convertor is not charging properly the propane detector will continue to alert you of low voltage.
Get down and look, I did and sure enough their is a small light that comes on marked for low voltage alert.
In my case the convertor was indeed failing not enough for me to notice but when parked and the propane detector chirping that is when it became apparent.

When our battery gets low when the TT gets unplugged, ours will beep also. My wife actually set if off last week with the spray on sunblock.

Knew about the LED and the low voltage which is why I checked the voltage at the detector. Picked up a new one today, same make and model as I wanted it to fit in the existing hole in the cabinet. They changed it a little, on the front they added writing which says "Replace by: 60 months after retail sale." I guess the manufacturer is rethinking that they'll last ten years.
Thanks,
