Hey everyone. I am currently having some problems with my propane system. I have a 2001 Forest river sierra toyhauler. I just installed a new propane regulator and hoses that go to the dual tanks. My refrigerator works fine on the gas. The heater and water heater both will not work. I had the water heater working very intermittently, but in the end just will not work. Did I possibly get a bad propane regulator, or are the heater and water heater simultaneously giving me problems? What do you guys think? Anyone ever had anything like this happen?

If it was winter, I would guess frozen propane, which has happened to me. Otherwise, you could have air in your line. How many times did you try to get the heater to light?

I don't have any air in the line. The stove and the fridge both work fine. The water heater has an auto ignition, you can hear it sparking but apparently not getting propane. As for the heater, it dosen't do anything but blow ice cold air.

My father-in-law has been having the same problems in his Rockwood, by Forest River for about 3 years. He has had several things replaced with his furnace with no luck. He has had many ideas as to what it may be but nothing concrete. One thing that he did find was a a couple of small leaks in the system along the way to trying to figure out the problem. He has spent a few hundred dollars trying to figure the problem out so if by chance you get it figured out please let us know what it was, then hopefully it may help him out.
Check the sail switch on the furnace, that is one thing that it could possibly fix your problem. Good Luck

Is the regulator adjustable? Most have an adjustment screw that is accessed under a cover in the front. Might just be set too low. Suggest you put a gage on the output and check the pressure against what the owner's manual says.

For what it's worth, the sale switch has nothing to do with the LP system, it measures the air flow from the blower and would indicate a fan not turning fast enough. Did you replace the gas LINES from the tanks to regulators at the same time? Did you get the correct regulator for your system? If the lines are the correct size and the regulator has the correct flow then I'd take it back to where you purchased the regulator and have it checked. It appears it's allowing gas to flow enough for low use items like the fridge but not for the furnace or water heater (both high use items). Possibly the auto sensor is shutting down gas sensing a leak due to the higher flow (which may indicate an incorrect regulator for your trailer). I'm just guessing here but it's got to be SOMETHING like that happening. Good luck / Skip

I suspect it wasn't freezing propane. (The freezing point of propane is -305F.)

I'm guessing I probably got a bad regulator, or the output is too low. It is the correct regulator, I bought it from the local rv retailer. I checked for leaks and there aren't any. I haven't put a gauge on it to see the output. I also don't know if there is any adjustment on it. I'm gonna go fool around with it in a few minutes. Freezing propane is impossible, it's almost 100 degrees outside! I've gotta get to the bottom of this, i'm gonna be using the trailer quite a bit very soon. Thanks for all the help.

Lynn Ok, well, I don't know what my problem is in winter if not that. I have two tanks, one on each side. The one on the far side from the regulator will not work in winter, I cannot get the propane to flow from it, through the black pipe to the regulator. I can only use the tank that connects directly to the regulator... but in summer, both work fine.

Are the new hoses the same size Inside diameter as the old ones ??
Possibly a lower flow is not enough for the heater ??
If not the hoses it almost has to be the regulator, unless you changed something else.
