I just input my postal code. If the keypad doesn't have letters as well as numbers I pull out the cell phone to find the number equivalent of the letters and input that. The only place it didn't work last year was Citgo .... so I just go down the road. Loves was one place I stopped frequently.

We opened up an wells fargo account just for the no hassel and I only get charged once for a s/c at the cdn bank for a deposit.
Also, we use the CFN card fueling system. It bills monthly. This system is set up for Canada and United states. ANd no its not a hassle finding the locations.
Lots of options for no hassel travelling.

We spent 45 days in the US this summer, mostly in the south (LA, FL) and I found that the further south I got the less trusting the gas station attendants were. In the north I could just show my card but by the time I got to New Orleans the only way I could get fuel was pre pay. Needless to say I got really good at estimating how much fuel I needed. I small hassle that I didn't let ruin my holiday.

The people who say that the few extra minutes spent fueling shouldn't be a problem are missing the point. First of all it can be much more than a few minutes. The routine usually goes something like get to the pumps, try to use the CC, go inside and line up at the cash, back out to the pumps, fuel, back inside, line up at the cash, settle the bill, back out the truck. Canadians spend millions of dollars in the southern states every winter and I think we deserve to be treated with more consideration by the fuel companies. The other point is that the problem isn't only while traveling, it's all the time we are away. If we spend 5 months in the US, it's every time we re-fuel. I'm sure it is equally frustrating for the people lined up behind us for the pumps.

I have a Royal Bank US Dollar Visa, which is actually drawn of the Royal Bank of Canada (American Banking), Delaware USA.
I have yet to have the "ZIP Code" issue with it. Of course I'm primarily traveling around "upper" New York so maybe I've just not experienced it as those who travel more extensively in the USA.
The added attraction of the RBC USD Visa Gold is that because it's actually drawn on a US Bank if you pay in US Dollars there is no Visa exchange surcharge, AKA-No double dipping by the bank and Visa.

CC - Found out last week that the Valero stations in upper NY now ask for the zip code. I just went in and paid, even though I'd rather pay at the pump.
I'm sure they just loved the slowdown to their business with my 53' combo sitting there at the pumps taking up a lot of space while I went in and paid!

Get an RBC acct, then get RBC U.S. acct. The US acct is a visa c/c rbc debit card. No problem with zip codes or any thing else.

When we are towing i always use commercial truck islands. DW walks into store with CC and walkie talkie. Clerk swipes card, activates the pumps and hands the CC back to my wife. She radio's me and I fuel up. When filled I radio her to validate final amount as I am pulling forward to let the next guy at the pumps as she settle up with store clerk and gets a snack or refreshment's.
While she is doing that I may step into the trailer for a nature break or simply do a walkabout checking out the truck and trailer.
We have had quite a few positive comments from both truckers and clerks as to our refueling process and no negative ones.
I use commercial truck pumps when towing which most time do not have card swipe devices in them anyways forcing the customer to go inside no matter what, simply because with the length of unit I have getting into passenger car islands is just plain dangerous and nerve racking.

I also second this!! RBC is great to work with!!!

Sorry to contradict you guys but I have RBC USA Bank visa and debit cards. Using the US Visa does not help with the zip code problem, at least not in the south.
