We have a 2008 National Sea Breeze motorhome, but it looks as if all the Ford documentation that came with it is referencing the Ford chassis as a 2006 model. I had heard that the Ford F53 chassis was updated quite a bit in 2008. I am disappointed to find out that even though my motorhome is a 2008 model year, I didn't get the 2008 chassis, but I think that is pretty common. Was the jump between the 2006 and 2008 models pretty significant? Any links that shows what was changed in 2008 (assuming I heard correctly that 2008 was a major redesign?)

Thanks

Most of the time the chassis is at least a model year older than the finished unit. You probably have a 2006 chassis. Check the ven number and ask your motor vehicle department what year the chasis is.

You can also contact Ford Customer Service at 800 444-3311 give them the VIN and perhaps they can also help identifying the year of your chassis. If it in fact an older chassis than a 2008 they should be able to tell you what changes/improvements exist.

Here's a link to a site showing the highlights on the 2008 chassis:

https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/specialty_vehicles/Motorhome_Class_A.asp

Here's another: https://www.fleet.ford.com/showroom/spec........s/Motorhome_Class_A-Specs.asp?ModelSpec=

And one more, a link to the Ford VIN decoder: https://www.fleet.ford.com/maintenance/vin_tools/default.asp

Good luck

I think it was the much later 2010 or 2011 that had any updates - GVW 22K up from 20500 right? If you have the 5speed auto with Tow/Haul you've got the latest I know of.

I posted information on how Ford updated the V-10 F-53 chassis each year in a previous topic. You can review it by clicking on the link below:

What Ford did to upgrade the F-53 Chassis each year.

The original topic title was "Class A info needed (Ford v10)"

Here are the highlights of changes for 2008:
For 2008, 24,000lb and 26,000lb capacities were introduced, heavier duty steel frame, 158" wheelbase for 16,000lb chassis option, external transmission filter deleted in favor of improved internal filter, 9,000lb front axle, 17,500lb rear axles available, redesigned brake system, one-touch starting system, 50 degree wheel cut for frontend.

You can tell the year of your chassis from the 10th digit of your VIN - it should be an "8" if you have a 2008 chassis. V10 chassis production began in 1999 with an "X" in the 10th digit, "Y" meant it was a 2000. After that, a "1" meant 2001 and so on. Ford never made a 2005 F-53 so you'll never find a "5" in the 10th digit. I'm not sure how they're handling number since the 2010 chassis was made - may be someone else can fill-in that information.
