Ok - We are headed toward Chaco in about 10 days. Has anyone been there recently that has advice on road conditions? We have a small light TT with 4wd TV and have taken over many rough roads in the past. We really want to stay in the campground in the park. Know that the north entrance is recommended but would like to exit south. Could use some feedback from anyone who has been ther recently.

Bob,
It has been awhile since I was in Chaco Canyon, but I am sure that the roads are still not paved, and can be rough if they have not been graded. During the monsoon I would make certain that there have been no recent rain events, other than that, I am sure you can make the entrance off of 550. I believe the South entrance is a bit rougher through the Bisti Badlands (they are as advertised).

Just before you head there, call the park (505)786-7014 ext. 221 and they can tell you the current road conditions. The last time we were there the south road was impassible for a TT, which is like that most of the time. Have a great trip and remember plenty of water. This is one of our favorite parks and we hope to get there again next summer.
