I prefer to get a Saturn (2350 lb) or Cavalier (2800 lb) to use as a toad.
I already have a Malibu (3100 lb).

In your opinion (hopefully opinions) how much difference would the 750 pounds make if I towed the Malibu.
I will be towing with a 24 foot Class C on a Chevy Express base.

Also, I like the idea of the ReadyBrake mechanical braking system both for simplicity and cost. If however it would not be satisfactory and I had to buy a "brake in a box" or other system, could both system act together.

Would give me belt and suspender setup and the non-mechanical system might be used or rebuilt.

Thanks

Nick

Got few replies when this was first posted.

Still would like comments.

Leaning toward pulling the Malibu (cheapest route) but concerned that extra weight will be noticeable.

Thanks

I think that extra weight is never good but , if your GCWR is within limits, I wouldn't worry. Limit your water and cargo to bare essentials.

I bought the 2008 Malibu "expressly" for that purpose. Wife cannot drive a manual shift vehicle and will not learn (I even offered to buy and tow a Corvette if she would).

The Malibu tows very easily - I cannot even tell it is back there unless I keep the monitor on and keep a watchful eye on it. It has very low rolling resistance.

Even with your lighter coach I feel the Malibu will work just fine - go enjoy.

God Bless

I think using a ReadyBrake system and a brake-in-a-box at the same time would be a bad idea and a waste of money. Getting both adjusted to work properly together would be difficult, and if the ReadyBrake is operating the brake pedal when the box is not yet calling for braking, the box may restrict the pedal movement. The ReadyBrake is a very simple and reliable system on its own. If you want a good "belt and suspenders" setup, just add the "Readystop Towed Vehicle Break Away", also from NSA, and only $100.
