Someone posted a long diagnoice of the different kind of toliet chemicals. Could not find the post. Thinking of using a new product called clean n' green by Dometic. Think it replaced Odorloss which was also an enzyme bacteria producing chemical. Is the basic differance between an enzyme product and say aqua keem, is the later eliminates bacteria and the former produces it. I am confused as to which is better way to go.

Your RV does not HAVE a septic system. It has holding tanks. You should be using HOLDING tank chemicals in your RV not septic system chemicals. They work MUCH MUCH slower and your waste will never stay in your holding tanks long enough for septic chemicals to work.

An active enzyme product does eat away the material but unless you use one with a lot of little guys as I call pac men it will work very slow. Rid ex is always mentioned on here but as above poster said it is for septic tanks where it stays for a lot longer. The actives I have & do use is millions of parts per million over this product. I use it in hot weather for it intended use & for a slight deodorant also. The good time to use it too is when empty and traveling as it will slosh and get on the walls of your tank and do it's job.It also is helpful this way in cleaning sensors. There is merit to it's use as some dealers use it when presented with a plugged line or tank as it will go to work & liquify the material.
Bottom line is if you are hooked to water & sewer use a lot of water per flush and ise as I stated above & be good IMHO!!

Don't really know if it makes much difference. As Skip posted. But what does make a difference is if one uses Formaldahyde (SP?), many C/G's don't allow it's use. Because most municipalities have outlawed it. I have actually had a C/G inspector check out my tank chemicals. Asked me to see what I was using and took a black tank sample. He said fines can range in the thousands, if in violation.

I wasn't worried.

I KNOW I do not have a septic tank. Just trying to determine which type of chemical to use in my HOLDING TANK

This is what we use. Well pleased and not harmful for dumps.

The emzine products are good for breaking down clogged drains, and in the case of RV black tanks, eating away at poo pyramids in the bottom of the tank. It does take time for the emzines to work. For normal camping the Geo method works very good and cleans the tank nice, especially if you have some kind of soap and water softener in there sloshing around when driving. And RV chemicals are good when parked to keep odors down between draining times.

I started putting Bio Chem in my black tanks between trips with a few gallons of water, because we have not had the opportunity to camp as much this year. So those little 'guys' have a good opportunity to keep chomping away at all the "nasties" in the tank. Works great for me!

For me no chemicals just some cheap liquid DW soap and some calgon along with LOTS OF WATER ... like 1/4 to 1/3 cup of each every 4 to 5 days when I dump.

I have to second the Calgon or similar and water(never used soap with it). Since using this method (I have been camping since I was 4, many different rv's thru out the years from bumper pulls to Class A's) we have had no chemical smell, no black tank smell, and no clogs, no mounds in the tank! I learned this method on this forum years ago,

Now if I was going to let my black tank sit with waste in it for many months at a time, I am sure there would be a better product. But for normal use, Calgon is the best I have ever used.
