Going camping next weekend after the long weekend.Looking for somewhere not in the mountains since it feels like fall around here recently.
Looking for something with a river and trees, dont want to be in a open field,we just boondock so hook ups no hook ups doesnt matter. No rv parks where your parked right next to the other person.
Any body got any favorites?
Been thinking about red lodge but was wondering what else is out there.

Mckenzie Crossing is in a very pretty area. It is close to a highway & I am not sure how close together the pads are.
Trenville is secluded and well treed. The Red Deer River runs by the edge of the campground but is not visable from any sites from my recollection. Big hill could get muddy.

We used it mostly for in between week end trips. There are some decent sites along the river bank.Be warned it is not well supervised and a party site on long week ends, may be OK this late in the season.People pull their units in and just stay for the summer.A great area for bats at night, spent many hours watching them.Run out and look at it first.

can you walk along the river? been to drumheller campground where you cant even get to the river.
Love bat watching did it out at Christina lake when i went there every summer.
Does it have lots of trees between sites and are you in a forested (if thats a word) area in the campground? Does it look nice?
Partying people doesnt bug me at all, means i can actually still talk to people across the fire and have a radio turned up to 2 on after 11:00pm.
Do they offer free firewood?
Thanks for all the info i do appreciate it.

You could try The Narrows it's about 36Km East of Lacombe it is on the river and well treed,if you don't like it drive on to Rochon Sands or Buffalo Lake they are just 25 Km further East. Or try Bleriot Ferry, about 20 Km Northwest of Drumheller, also on the river.

Canyon campsite an hour west on highway 1 and half an hour south into Kananaskas Country. You can do an all day walk up the big canyon. Or an hour in the little canyon in the campsite. No river, just a creek and a lake at the edge of the campground.
