Hi,
I am new to the forum and wanted to share my solution to the odor problems typically associated with the Thetford Aqua Magic V toilet.
Issue:
This toilet has an inner chamber area below the bowl blade valve and the closet flange seal (floor). Many refer to this as the "splash chamber" Due to this poor design. What happens is that you can flush your black tank well and still have odor from the splash chamber which after awhile becomes far worse than your average black tank odor, I'll spare you the odor description(s).
I looked for any and every solution and only by trial and error came up with a way to fix it. I hope you find this helpful.
Solution:
FIRST, be sure that your black tank is properly flushed. Then, also be sure that your odor is not coming from a bad or old closet seal or blade seal. Next, use a toilet/tank wand preferably the one with the rotating head and hold open the blade valve on your toilet. Try to clean as much solid matter as possible with the wand and the resulting water. In my case this made a huge difference in odor, BUT only for a day or so due to the bacteria left behind.
SECOND. My dilemma was how to apply some sort of tank deodorizer or enzyme to the inside are of the splash zone. This inner area has so many nooks and crannys that it is almost impossible short of removing the toilet and cleaning from the bottom to get it clean. Any spray bottle i found to deliver a cleaning agent, either would not spray upside down or would not bend or be able to spray this inner area effectively. If you have an Aqua Magic V, you will know what i mean.
So, I made the following: A spray bottle with wand that can hold a concentrated solution of tank liquid and modified the end of the wand to allow the wand to spray upwards and sideways inside the splash chamber. Here are links to the images:

These parts are available at home depot and are simple to screw together. You will need Teflon tape on the threads of the adapter so that it is watertight so to speak.
So what i did was to use about 1/2 of a bottle of your typical blue black tank cleaner and added about enough water in the spray bottle for about half the tank of super concentrated liquid.
I sprayed the inside of the splash chamber by holding open the blade valve (with RV water pump turned off) and inserting the sprayer wand inside and spraying the inside top and sides of the inside chamber.
By the afternoon I had no more odor and all is well. I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have questions or comments.

Thanks for the idea! It makes me think I could use our pressure washer to clean out our black tank--like one of those hose sprayer devices but under pressure. I haven't seen that idea posted yet, but somebody has probably done it!

Hi EMD360. I did see a pressure wand that hooks up to your garden hose and had a swivel head that might be able to fit down the toilet hole into chamber at costco for $9.00, but like the rotating head toilet wands that i used from campingworld that was only half the solution. Once i got rid of the bulk of the muck, i still needed to apply a solution to disinfect. That's why i modded the sprayer.

Thanks for the info... we recently purchased our 5er from our friends, 7 months in storage when we bought it. The water closet just contains the toilet and was kind of ripe. After using the toilet and many flushes, even filling the tank with water up to the rim, the odour has disappeared. If it returns I'll seriously consider your little trick.
