This past weekend I had to chase down a fellow RVer to let him know one of the tires on his 5er blew out.

I was following him down I-81 just north of Syracuse when I noticed a piece of rubber flying out from underneath his 5er. At first I wasn't sure if it was from him or just road debris. When the smoke started after about 10 sec, I realized it was from him. As I pulled along side of him, you could hear the remains of the tire just beating up everything. Hopefully, the damage wasn't too bad.

Exocet;
You did good. Two years ago a concerned citizen flagged me down to tell me that the left rear tire on my TT had separated the tread. As it pinned wheeled it tore up the side and and floor above the tire. A total of $8,000.00 damage. However, we were lucky since it was part of the slide that was damaged and it still was able to come out so our trip was not canceled.

I keep seeing all these posts and pictures about blow outs and the damage that ensues. I'm thinking of screwing some 1/4" plate steel above the tires to limit the damage to the plastic fenders and not the floor since I'm driving on Chinese time bombs. Of coarse I'll replace the tires some day but by then none of them will be made in America.

Good Job.

Had a few years back was riding my motorcycle. Guy with pickup truck pulling 5th wheel passed a car and used no blinkers. When I passed him I noticed the cord from the trailer that is suppose to be hooked up to the truck dragging on the ground. Got his attention, he rolled down the window and I yelled what was up. He pulled over and stopped.

However have come along side a couple of motorhomes with bay doors open and tried to get them to roll their windows down and they won't. Honk the horn, but was ignored. Oh well I tried and rolled on.

Hi All.

Congrats. Just proves that having a Tire Monitor System is well worth the price, compaired to the damage the a tire can do too an RV. Think of the cost of a Tire Monitoring System, then think of how much damage a tire can casue. Not just the cost of the repair, but count the down time that you will not be able to use your RV. Kind of makes your choice a litle easier to make. Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill

Last year while returning from our favorite “local” campground a Carlisle trailer tire blew; I changed it with the spare and we were on our way. While continuing home on the interstate a guy pulled up beside me and motioned to pull over. I stopped and he walked up saying one of my trailer tires was bouncing. Didn’t take long to determine the bouncing tire was another Carlisle with tread missing and the belt showing. He said he owned a trailer and the same thing happened to him. I slowly got off the interstate and “limped” home though town. Because of his help we avoided lots of potential trouble, including damage to the trailer and being stranded with no spare. Needless to say I was very grateful for his assistance and could not get the Carlisle’s off my trailer fast enough.
