I have been a Peace officer and firearms instucter for over 33 yrs. If you wish to bring guns into Canada it is not that hard. Jump through a few hoops and take a course or just challage the exam that gets you a fedral licence and follow our storage and transport laws. I will tell you that even though I am a Peace officer and have done a 2 yr stint with Canadian Border Services Agency I CANNOT take a firearm into the US. Even if I am invited to compete in a firearms course it would take over 4 mounths for your ATF to issue me the permit for the one time importation. It is MUCH easier for someone from the US to bring guns into Canada than for a Canadian to bring them into the US. If Canada followed the US rules no US hunter would ever be allowed to bring a gun into Canada. Thanks for listening to my rant. Eddy

As a Canadian touring in the US currently I wonder about American's interest in guns. I'm in the deep south (at the moment in New Orleans, just spent a week in Mississippi). Just judging by numbers of buildings and billboards it seems American's in these parts are keen about: Fireworks, the Flag, Firearms and Jesus. A typical small town has several churches, a couple of roadside fireworks vendors, plus a store, and guns and ammo shops as common as a Timmy coffee shop at home. And they do love to fly their flag, the bigger the better - nothing wrong with that - or any of the above, just my observation.

The biggest issue with this idea is who pays for it Canadians ot Americans?

Canadians, because of the mistrust of the rhetoric of the Canadian Government and the lost tax dollars of the tourists. Think about it. The subjects of Canada are no more blind to freedom than the voters in the States that elected Osama.. Tourist dollars are the oil that greases recovery. They are dollars that aren't needed for survival thus are "growth" dollars.. We need growth not maintenance..Canada is suppressing growth for it's Country with it's Gestapo attitude of restricting personal safety of it's tax producing visitors. Totally, In My Opinion....

Yeh ! Before it gets closed!

To All My American Friends,

Please bring as many Handguns up here as You can stuff into those Compartments.

We also suggest that once You are Safely across the Border take them Out and put them in Your Holsters on whichever Hip isn't giving You trouble. You will be able to wear them anywhere they make a nice accessory to your Shorts and Socks! We don't have a Golden Corral or Skillet Restaurant to showcase Your coolness, but perhaps one of Our Poutine Palaces will do.

There will of course be many Dangerous People and Animals .....,Squirrels , Mosquitoes, and of course the rampant and likely Rabid Beavers to threaten Your Macho personal property.

Yes there are a few sleazy creeps running around up here, but in true Canadian Fashion We have painted them with a large Red Bulls eye so that You can shoot them any time they get out of line or knock on Your door!

As Most of You realize I'm making a joke! We have crime in Canada for sure and there are times when having a gun to defend ones home would certainly be called for. But We as a Nation have decided that we don't want to go there. We have Regulated Gun Possession and We like it this way! If You wish to Visit Our Sovereign Nation Please be considerate and obey Our Laws!

Jerry: what's up with the derogatory posts about Canada and LaLaland as in fool's paradise. Now one on the 'mistrust of our government' and "gestapo tactics stifling tourism dollars".

You've been made aware that visitors to your country are not allowed to bring handguns in as in "stifling tourism" but insist that you should have that right when coming to Canada to "protect yourself". Seeems fair I guess!

Why is it you understand the concept of not having a gun with you to travel to any other part of the world but think Canada should allow you to carry and you even feel entitled to make belittling statements about our country over this issue.

Just asking, I'm really trying to get a handle on this mindset.

Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

Yeah, I have a big problem with the mindset that says their outlook is more true than that of my country.

That is disrespect. Respect of our laws is acceptance that we are sovereign, ie, we have just as much authority to ask incomers to do as we do when here as they have to ask to obey their laws when we visit there.

How in heavens name can that be called or even thought of as 'gestapo'??

I own a gun and I voted for Obama. I have and will, happily visit Canada again without it.
