During the past two weeks there have been 3 US citizens caught at
the border coming into St. Stephen with undeclared hand guns.
These stories have been in the local newspaper, The Telegraph
Journal, and have resulted in car seizures and fines, not to mention
one jail sentence.
If you have a gun and do not declare it, and get stopped for a traffic
violation and the police find the gun, then it is a criminal offence
with jail time almost guaranteed. (As stated in the article)
If you answer yes to the question about having guns at the customs
crossing, they will give you the opportunity to store it somewhere
or maybe they may keep it for you if you are returning to that border
crossing.
Sometimes a bad decision makes for a lot of misery and lots of cash.
The judge in one case suggested that if anyone is travelling with
a group, it would be wise to spread the word about guns not being
welcome in Canada.
I know that this topic has been much "hashed over", I just thought
I'd pass on these recent incidents.

Crazy Americans...what were they thinking! Check your guns at the border, there's no crime in Canada anyway!

According to the Canadian Government there are no bad guys in their Country but I wonder who the good guys were that murdered the RVers and burned their motor home? The subjects of that Country are living in La La Land. They are defenseless against the criminals who have no value of life. An Alaska trip was always a goal for us but safety is also a goal. I believe no Government, including our own, who tells me they are concerned for my individual safety. The Canadian Government as are the individual State and local Governments here in the States aren't concerned about the citizens safety but of their warped sense of power. I've tried different avenues of getting to our goal of an Alaska trip but crossing Canada in an unprotected environment will not let it happen. At one time rolling in the dirt with an adversary was fun but we're in our seventies now and no longer an option. Mr. Winchester or Mr. Ruger are our co-pilot..I don't leave home without them...... IMO...

Not to start yet another gun/anti-gun rant, but....
1) I don't believe the Canadian gov't. claims there is no crime or no bad guys in their country.
2) If crossing Canada to visit Alaska is so unsafe & considering the hundreds (thousands?) of people who do it every year, why aren't there more reports of problems?
Make your own decisions based on your choices, but please don't exaggerate the circumstances. The OP was simply passing on some good advice.

Maybe a simple road sign on the side of the road (s) leading up to the Canadian border crossings would help. Something to the effect:
Don’t bring handguns into Canada it’s the Law! ( WE ARE NOT KIDDING)
The sign would have bright yellow and black florescent sash marks around the out side edges that is very brightly reflective in the day or at night in headlights.
( only a small amount of though put into this while waitng to the Hockey Pre Season to start eh?)
You could write a whole big long winded road sign with a bunch of verbiage that couldn’t be read by someone driving along a road heading to the boarder on long guns and other gun issues, but a simple sign I think would help.
The biggest issue with this idea is who pays for it Canadians or Americans?

This is funny. No flame meant folks but it reminds me of an E-mail that was circulated about a neighbor who put a sign in his yard that he was armed, a card carrying member of the NRA, and his neighbor, with an arrow indicating, was an anti-gun owner..I wonder if the above poster would be willing to advertise that he was anti gun? Just a thought. Look in my yard, I'm not ashamed to state that I am a firearm owner.. IMO...
