We live in the NC mountains where many times the temperature is 10 degrees below zero and the pipes would freeze if I didn't have everything drained, and we have never had a problem with the printer cartridge freezing, or if it has, it has always worked good, when we return in the spring. I think there is some alcohol in the ink, but I am not sure.
wouldn't hurt to give the manufacturer a call

We brought ours a long last year down south. If you have the room and do not already have one in the coach , I'd suggest bringing it with. It comes in handy .

I am curious. Do you have any idea what the temp is in the house when it is -40 outside?
If it gets below 0 inside or lower, I would be skeptical of anything working. I doubt if there is a printer company out there that has tested their printer and ink to that degree. Next year, maybe in the summer time, put a usable cartridge in the freezer for 3 months or so. At least that would be in the zero degree temp. That might give you some idea. Also, do not put it in a frost free freezer as they can create moisture on anything when they warm up to melt the ice on the walls.

Is that a trick question? Unless you're referring to solar or geothermal heat from the ground the temp should be about -40 inside also. It could be a tad warmer given the place is insulated.
My concern isn't if or not it would work during those temps as much as if I will end up with a large mess when I get back in the spring because of the cartridges bursting.
Like it has been said before I'll just take the effort to put it on the list of things to do prior to taking off. "Take out ink cartridges, store in zip lock bag in bathtub" that should take away any doubt of a big mess. If in the spring everything is OK, I'll just cross it off the list of what I have to do in the fall.

Just remove the cartridge(s) and take them with you in the motorhome. They are small & weigh nearly nothing. But whatever you do remove them from the printer.

I really don't want to do that either since they have a silly little plastic cap that you snap off prior to install. I'm guessing I want to store them upside down to limit any leakage from that area once they're removed from the printer. Last thing I need is an ink mess in the MH after banging down I35 with the old F53.
From a few prior posts I'm betting I'll be just fine leaving them here in a zip lock in the tub (with all the other household liquids that we don't take.) If that is the case, then I'll just leave them in the printer from then on and it will become a mute point. If I guess wrong then I'll be out $50 for new cartridges which isn't all that bad an have a zip lock bag full of ink goo to get rid of.
Ain't technology great. BTW, good luck with hurricane Earl.

I know it's not what you are asking but why not take your printer with you. I take mine and it comes in handy.

Short question with a long answer, sorry....
I would love too, but.....
I just bought it off amazon on one of their "deal of the day" promotions. It is one of those "all in one" printers which is also WiFi enabled. I thought that would be a nice thing to have here, and on the road for DW and I. There has been a few times when on the road that it would have been nice to scan something in, or print something off. When we needed to do that we had to go to the local libraries or the park office.
The problem is I figured for the price it was going for it would be a very nice little home office printer. Turns out to be a fairly large unit, that is really setup more for a small office environment. It's great because I got a really nice unit for not much $$$ for the S&B, but not so good for the MH.
The other thing that I didn't realize at the time was WiFi for this unit meant you needed a WiFi router in your network. Again great for the S&B, but not on the road. Between the size of it, having to tether it to the two laptops, and the rarity of really needing it while out and about kinda makes it more problems then it would be worth to us. So it's going to stay behind.

RE Hurricane Earl
We are parked within about 150 feet of the Atlantic, there is a high bank so storm surge will not be an issue, just wind. Filled the water tank for extra weight. The campground is nearly full for the holiday weekend.
We had a long Happy Hour on the beach, the tide is a little higher then the past few days. Waves 1 - 2 feet, current wind 10 - 15 MPH.
It's supposed to hit us about midnight but has been significantly downgraded. 35 - 40 max wind expected. Too bad it is hitting after dark or I could practice surfing. People in the campground have stowed all their lawn furniture & I went around and turned all nearby picnic tables upside down so the wind don't catch them.

We do the exact same thing, no problems with ink cartridges. Any bottles that we're not sure of get put in the laundry tub (not food items). 13 years, no surprises.
