In replacing the shower in my 06 Pilgrim I found the shower basin is a good 8 inches off the floor. About even with the toilet seat. I know many RV's use this space for valving & other plumbing purposes but can't see any reason why this situation exists in my TT. Yeah, there's some plumbing tubing under there but certainly not enough to justify using 3 cubic feet of space.
I'm 6 foot tall & my head is scraping the ceiling in the shower. Can anyone think of a reason why I shouldn't lower the shower basin a few inches? I already know I'll need to make new supports but as the existing ones are only 3/8 OSB, I don't think that presents much problem.

There should be no reason not to lower it, if nothing underneath prevents it . Often with production units if one model required a built up shower, instead of ordering seperate units, they order all the same and use them in all models. G

The shower floor should be at the same level as the old one. You have installed it wrong. Remove it and adjust the plumbing so it sits on the floor.

Maybe they put it that high to keep the pipes from freezing? I see no reason not to lower it either. For that matter put it all the way down on the floor and put the pipes in the basement.

The plumbing (P-trap, etc) is usually what dictates the space needed under the shower. The water has to flow downhill from there to the gray tank. Look carefully at that situation before changing it.

Read it again. He hasn't installed anything yet; he's just asking if there's a good reason not to install it lower than it originally was.

The shower drain is usually the lowest one in the rv and lowering it could cause water to collect in the shower pan. Study it cafefully.

Mine is raised like yours. There is an access panel and I removed to see why. I discovered it was to allow room for the P-trap, otherwise it is all wasted space. I'm not sure why my last camper had the floor of the shower at floor level, maybe some manufacturers do not use a P-trap and just have the drain go straight into the tank.

Could you add a skylight to the roof to give you more head room?
This may be a cheaper solution.

Tramp116 please verify that the old shower was at floor level. Have you installed the new one? Does it have a skirt that raises it? Please ask your question again with different verbage.
