"Next summer, I am planning a three-month photography/recreation trip across the country. I would love to take some type of boat with me - probably a canoe."

Hi Larry,

In terms of photography, an aircraft might be nice. And for that a powered paraglider can hardly be beat.

I carry my flying machine in my Roadtrek 190. I removed the third seat behind the passenger seat, and that is where my paramotor sits. The paraglider wing is in the back next to the toilet or on the floor in front of the passenger seat.

I have a 16 ft Pakcanoe and yes the canoe will fit under the rear cargo area. This includes paddles, PFDs,bailer, etc. When we got the RT a few years ago we knew that we had to compromise on the canoeing aspect. The Pakcanoe was the only option that we knew about and it does enable us to travel with a canoe. However, the canoe takes at least 1/2 hour to put together so it is a bit of a pain. Good luck with your search.

We have an Innova 12' inflatable tandem kayak. It, along with 2 inflatable PFD's and pump, fits easily under one of the settees in our Sportsmobile Sprinter. Innova makes a quality product and is much easier to set up than a "folding" boat.

Hey Larry - I have a swing away cargo carrier you can borrow next summer. I have taken long trips the last 3 summers and don't think I will need it next year. It is nice because it swings away so you can still have access to the back door of your van. I have used it the last 3 summers to carry a Honda eu2000 generator and a large storage box.
