Well, it's true, if you don't start planning far enough ahead, you won't know what you're in for. DW and I were wanting to go to South Texas next month and get involved in of those wonderful activities we have heard about and make some friends. Come to find out, October is too early for South Texas. The places I've called said that the fun starts in January. So.....

Anyone know of some places we can go this early in the year to have some fun? Anywhere between FL and TX would be fine with us. We are mid 50's and have a 38.5ft 5er with 4 slides. Haven't put the 2nd A/C in yet, so were are only 30amp.

We want to start making some memories! :-)

San Antonio. By mid september it's not that hot. We were there end september the year we retired from the military and it was not too hot. Great town, lots of history and unending things to do. We still love the River Walk. Heres a link. San Antonio. Oh yeah.

Technically a little south of your target zone, grab your passport and head for Zacatecas in Mexico. Up in the mountains so not that hot. Great historical city, again lots of history and the best mine tour we have ever been on. Stay at the Hotel del Bosques and RV park. Lots of fun and well worth visiting.

Have a good trip wherever you go.

On your way to Texas stop by GulfShores Alabama and stay at the state park. They are still recovering from the last hurricane but there are a lot of thing to do. Great beaches and resterants, great golf, and don't forget the Floribama bar and the Pink Panther Pub. The Pinsacola Naval Air Station is nearby and the have a great museum if you like those things and Buchardt Gardens is on the other side of the bay along with a static displayed battle ship,submarine,SR22 and other planes.

This will be our 11th year in the Rio GRande Valley and we have arrived as early as October 1st. Usually park activities start ramping up in November and are in full swing by December. However, we have never found it difficult to find things to do throughout the valley at any time of the year. We stay at Alamo Rec Veh Park in Alamo, TX, just east of McAllen. It is central enough in the valley that any part is easily accessible. Be sure to bring your passports so that you can go to Progreso, Mexico. It is the only safe town to visit and shop and is in close proximity. If you would like more information, sent me an email. We are fulltimers and are looking forward to getting back by the first of November.

While I do agree that the majority of snowbirds begin arriving around Nov 1, and by Dec 1, most are in their snowbird park, we find arriving early allows us to get all of our medical appointments out of the way, and to just kick back and relax after traveling all summer.
Its also nice to find uncrowded golf courses as well. The shrimp festival in Port Isabel is usually around Nov 1, and we enjoy that.
