Every winter we take our camper up to the lodge and leave it for six months during snowmobile season. Even though we dont use water at all the wife sometimes has to use the toilet to go pee. Is there any suggestions on how to better control the odor using it like this. And yes I know the best way is to not use it but its a little difficult to tell her not to use it but she cant step out behind a tree like I can.

One year we used a gallon, or gallons of RV antifreeze, and mixed in the chemical made for odor control (There are many of them) for RV use, thus this acted as an antifreeze in the tank along with the odor control. Mix up as many gallons as you might use, this also can be used in any of your gray or black water tanks, BUT not your fresh water tank.
Happy trails.

I'd just add the pink stuff.....it's about $4/gal at walmart, so $20 will have you in pretty good shape for keeping the tank from freezing....and just add the regular tank chemicals. With 5 gals of liquid, she might even be able to use the toilet for more than peeing

Happy Camping

I would winterize the whole RV and pick up a porta pottie. I did this when I had to go from Wisconsin to Florida in the dead of winter.
Thetford makes a 'real' nice porta-pottie that looks EXACTLY like the one in the RV. I put mine right next to the MH toilet, and used it on the way down south until I could de-winterize the RV.

It is as high as a normal toilet with a nice, clean, odorless tank underneath that unsnaps and looks like a suitcase. You take it to any public bathroom or your lodge sewer hookup should still work in winter (if its not covered with 5 ft of snow!) and a pvc type pipe swivels out and you dump it. You will even start using it on those cold and nippy nights!

I wouldn't take the chance of 'any' of the lines/tanks freezing, costs way to much money and pain to fix. just my 2 cents.

Here's the link-several different size models to choose from!

She needs to read chapter 6 of this book. It is an informative book that uses humor to make the topic easier to read.

I generally just use bleach for odor control in the summer. I don't know if that will mix with rv antifreeze, however.

I've NEVER found any chemical whose order was acceptable in my bathroom any more than the sewage smell. Keep your system in good shape, use plenty of water and you won't smell either one.
