My 09 SRW gets around 9-10 towing a little over 14k if I keep it around 60mph. If I push it to 70 I get 8's. I only have around 15K on it now and from the start it has averaged 11mph according to my spreadsheet. But I drive almost 100% city when not towing. The few highway trips I did were around 15mph. I find the mileage has been significantly better this year now that the motor is starting to break in.

Ken,

Here is my story. Names have been changed to protect... oops wrong movie.

As my signature states I drive a 450. A little heavier apparatus but packs the 6.4L engine. I have 4:30 gears which also help.
I also pull an Alpenlite and as you know the last thing they are is light.

I am at 15.5K pulling mine being maxxed at 16K. Your is most likely 14.5K? Just guessing. The engine is the same power plant I am using. I was also pulling my Jeep. All said I was towing over 21K.

I averaged 8 MPG. Hand calculated. I put about 4200 miles on my truck. I recently pulled the fifthwheel without the Jeep on back. it was a short trip only 185 miles and MPG went up to 9.8! Speed was maintained at 63 MPH which sits right on 2000 RPMs.

I love this truck. I admire its power and totally respect its abilities. I experienced 6 re-gens each one less than that before. First one was at 4000 miles. That was the very first one but well warranted as I was pulling a long steeper grade.

The clutch fan does its job very well also. it will whine for you but its supposed to when a designated temp is reached. All in all.. the best I have ever owned. With your fiver weight where are you with maxx? and how does your truck handle the weight? How about re-gens? always love to hear great stories.

good luck.

My 2010 F350 CC DRW King Ranch only has 4000 miles on it so far. My first long trip towing my Fuzion 322 loaded from Ohio to DC and back averaged 9.1 mpg and this was up and down some pretty sttep grades in Maryland and WV. I get between 14 and 16 just driving to town and back about 5 miles each way. Yesterday afer a regen, I did see 19.1 for a brief time but then dropped back to 16. I don't expect more than this and amy actually happy so far with the milage as I had feared worse after all the reading I had done about the 6.4's mpgs. My 06 F350 CC SRW did much better than the 6.4 but with the single rear wheel, I just didn't feel safe towing a 15K plus 5th wheel.

My truck's in my signature.

When pulling our 9000 lb. Sabre, we generally get around 8 mpg. But let me say this; we roll. I have no problem doing 70-75 mph as often as possible. This engine seems to love high speeds anyway. Between our house and Disney, it's 2 miles of back roads, 628 miles of interstates. Next January, she'll be running 70-75 mph for 8-9 hours straight. Except for the all too often fuel stops.

On flat terrain, it's only pulling 2000 rpm doing 70-75. I have a 3.73 rear end.

Thanks for the replys, it look as if the 6.4 is not as bad on fuel as I have heard. I usually drive 65 mph as my trailier has ST tires. Sometimes I fudge a little but get a little nervous about blowing as tire. It looks as if a 6.4 may be in my future.

Better late then never to reply.
My 6.4 is in my sig.
It now has 13200 miles and we get 9-10 pulling our 13,500lb fiver at 60-65mph, If traffic pushes me to 70ish my mileage does drop into the high 8's.
Bobtailing at highway speeds 14-15 consistently and 11-12 in town.

As someone else said just after a cleaning cycle yesterday while touring empty at just about 55mph on some back country two lane highways we saw 18-19 mpg for about 40 miles until we go back into the city, then it drop back to about 15-16.

Love the truck, no complaints here

Congratulations on the truck. My work truck is a 2009 F-450 6.4 and it seems to average around 8 mpg. The truck is at 17,000 pounds and has 4:10 gears. I am a Dodge man and have a 2500 6.7 for my personal truck but I wouldn't be against a Ford. The Ford hasn't missed a beat in 20,000 miles and is drivin hard.

Congrats, may you have a great experience I've been having with my 2008 F-450.
