Wrong, I am. Fredsberg. is further away than I thought, and I just recieved email from "Hill Country RV Park - Fredericksburg" That they are all booked full for Jan. and Feb. I'm assuming that the other parks are likewise.

Too bad that one has to start making RV park reservations for snowbirding several months in advance. Kinda takes the adventure out of it all. How does anybody snowbird, much less go full timing, if one has to plan months ahead of time where he is going to go. What's the spirit in that?

If Fredericksburg, TX is booked consider Kerrville. Several nice parks around the area. Buckhorn Lake and Guadalupe River RV Resort. Its a short trip to Fredericksbug from Kerrville.

As others have said it can get pretty cold there in Dec, Jan & Feb. I would say it is a Great location for Oct, Nov, March & April.

That simple is amazing. The parks tell you they are all booked up, then when you're in the area and drive thru them they are 1/3 empty. Really would love to know what is going on. I'm guessing if you're reserving for less then three months (at this time of year) they're simple telling people they are all booked up hoping for the long term renters.

If you really want to reserve in that park, call back in October or November, that's when most people cancel their winter reservations and I'm also guessing they are more "open" minded.

We loved Fredericksburg but it is cool. Last winter we even got a skiff of snow one morning. The water lines also froze but it was an unseasonably cold winter all over the south.
We do love it there though. It is unique and very historical. Interesting area.
You are right John and Joey......the parks are always booked solid but 1/3 empty. Odd.

There's always the Quartzite area of western Arizona. RV parks and lots of boondocking. During January, Quartzite is an RV'rs version of the Sturgis motorcycle rally.

Fredricksburg is our favorite town to shop in,but not our favorite place to camp. We stay near Boerne, about 30 miles away. We still go to Fredricksburg almost every week. You will need reservations for Fredricksburg. The small towns in Hill country have some of the best antique shops in Texas.

This past spring we were talking to some camp hosts at Buckhorn lake Resort in Keerville Tx which is 20 miles away. They said it was 8-9 degs many many days last January/February. They had to fill up their water tanks and use that for most of one week plus heaters going all day and night to try and keep warm. They had thier winter coats on also. I think somewhere more south would be better or go out to AZ.

Just thought I'd pass that on.

Thanks for the message.

I think, maybe, I'll wait until early spring before I travel.

Please remember that last year was VERY unusual for weather in all of the south of the US because of the big El Nino. This is shaping up to be a La Nina year, which will mean much more moderate temperatures in the south.

That said, the Hill County will get below freezing for a few days every year. That's why most people go further south to the Coastal Bend and the RGV.
