We just took 126 from Florence out to Eugene last week. A piece of cake and a beautiful drive. I would say that you can't really go wrong with any of the e/w routes to get you to the coast and back. The closer to the Portland area you take off from, the heavier traffic you will have for a time, just because of the greater population!! Those south of the Portland, except for Newberg, are great drives.
