Hi,
I have a 2003 Fleetwood Bounder 35r. I was checking the lights on my toad, and found out that the brake lights aren't working on the toad. The brake lights do work on the motorhome. I hooked up the toad to another vehicle, and the brake lights work on it, so I know that the issue is not the wiring in the toad.
Next I checked the wiring on the rv right at the connection. When the brake is pressed, there is no power sent. Both signal lights and the tail lights work. I traced the wiring about 6 feet under the rv to a connection. I disconnected it, and did another test, and got the same results - both signal lights work as does the tail light.
I was not able to trace it any further than that. I'm assuming that there is some sort of relay, but when I look in the engine compartment it is very difficult to determine what wiring and/or relay would be for the tow wiring.
So does anyone have any ideas on what to do? Do you know where the tow wiring ends up? Is there a relay?
Thanks,
Darryl

Depending on the wiring as I don't know Fleetwood products, but Monaco has a fuse box in the rear compartment where there are fuses for the tow circuits and the lights..It got me too....and I went nuts until I found two fuses out in there.

In one of the right rear compartments on the Diesel Bounder there are 2 electrical boxes that hold fuses for the trailer plug 12v, brakes and signals. It was in the one with the spare tire on the 38' diesel. It was a bit hard to get to on my 05, but you'll find the fuse for the brakes there.

I read it as a brake light problem. Start at the brake light seitch and go from there,

I take it that you have a gas Bounder not diesel (at least I think so because it is a Workhorse chassis). There is a black box in the front of the RV that should have the fuses that control the brake lights on the Toad. Look there.

I have the same problem on my 05 32W Bounder. I used magnetic lights with my Class C but now with the Bounder the brake lights don't work. I'm sure its because the MH has separate turn signal and brake lights but I haven't been able to correct the problem.

I had to go to my local trailer specialist when mine didn't work right...the factory wiring on mine from Fleetwood did not match up with my "toad" wiring...they had to install a relay box in the rear of the Fleetwood to make things right.
The previous owners used a tow dolly and they claimed the "stock" wiring from Fleetwood worked with the trailer...it did not work correctly for my "toad" vehicle...actually blew fuses on my return trip to NJ with the toad...was a real PITA.
It was easily corrected with the diode box or whatever they call it and someone who knows what they are doing...worked fine ever since.

Thanks everyone.
This isn't a case of wiring of the motorhome not matching up with the toad. I used a multi-meter and confirmed that there is no signal at the connector on the motorhome when the brake on the motorhome is depressed. I checked all connectors. So something else is going on.
I have not found a fuse box for towing (It's a gas bounder (Workhorse chassis) As well, since the signal lights do work, but the brakes don't, wouldn't it be highly unlikely that a fuse was the problem? I'll check closer in the spare tire compartment tomorrow though.
If it was the brake light switch, wouldn't I have problems with the brake lights on the motorhome itself, and not just on the towing wiring?
There is the BCC in the front of the motorhome, however, I don't think it controls the tow wiring .. . is there another black box I should be looking for?
Thanks,
Darryl
