So, I have finally come to the point where I can get back into racing. I normaly would rent a hotel for the weekend. I also go camping with the fam 4-5 times a year. I do not currently have a tow vehicle and am waiting on both the camper and hauler purchase until I have everything nailed down (don't want to make a mistake on either end).
Here is what I need to have:
1. Minimum 16 foot cargo area
2. Will sleep 2 adults, 2 kids, and enough room for 2 dogs as well.
3. Would like to have an awning attached to the hauler
I was looking at 5'th wheels and tagalongs from Forest River. The one thing I noticed was that the dry weight of the Forest River one I liked was 10,500lbs. With my 3,000lb car inside, we are talking some serious weight, and unless I get a maxxed out 3500 diesel truck, even then the max towing capacity is around 14,000lbs. I figure adding tires, tools, spares, water, and food will tip me over the edge with a maxxed out 1 ton. So, not sure what to do there.
I'm aware of only a couple of places that make toy haulers that will carry cars. What drives me nuts is the ones I have found, they don't list cargo capacity! That's my number one issue!
The RV places around me haven't been much help because I'm not planning on buying until next spring.
So, if anyone here can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it. I feel as though I'm running out of options.
Thanks in advance.

Not many TH can handle a car that size. You will need a 450 DRW for sure.

I think I would keep that big of info quiet. No need for them to know.
One more thing to consider is that you'll probably need to upgrade your driver's license. I don't know what your state limits are, but ours max out at 10,000 for a two trailer and 15,000 (I think) for a 5er.

Well it looks like the GCWR for a Dodge 3500 2wd that I'm looking at is about 23,000lbs. If I can keep the trailer weight around 9k lbs. that should be enough....I think?
I don't even know where to look for the licensing stuff. Last time I tried to access the michigan DOT website, I almost threw the computer out the window.

2WD in Michigan? Suicide!
There are very few, if any TH with a 16' garage that can haul a 3000lb car plus 1500-2500lbs of crap(food, water, tires, tools, spare parts and all the other stuff needed for racing).
Most that could would be of a boxed trailer design.

Eh, been driving RWD in the snow for years. Used to it I guess.
I looked at Pace American, but I can't get a damn sales rep to give me any information.

Look at the Forest River Work and Play line. Most have a 5000 lb cargo capacity. They are built on car hauler frames. Not as plush as an RV type TH but are very comfortable and have all the necessities. I had a 35ft 5th wheel that I loved. They are also built with a lower ramp height dor easier loading.

What was the dry weight, or total weight if you know, and what did you tow it with? I think the one I was looking at was 38'
