I agree, the park I go to is half full all Winter, and if you reserve, and they want a full months rent, they just use your money until you get there, I would rather use it.

I have also noticed that the parks tell you they are nearly full and when you arrive, there are many vacant sites. We have seen this during the summer months too. We went to the UP of Michigan and stayed in a park that has over 600 sites. When I called for availability, the employee acted as if we should hurry since they are filling up. We were there a week and there may have been 100 sites of the 600 that were occupied.

Yes we see the same thing. If we call and ask about a spot they always tell us they are filling fast and we should reserve. We have not reserved yet and are welcomed with open arms when we get there. Our park last year was a round 56 % all winter long.

Its true, its marketing...no different than 20 yrs ago when I worked at the Honda dealer when the BIG RED 3 wheeler was so hot. We would get a shipment of say 15 of which about 6 were sold BUT we marked every crate except 1 as "SOLD". Didn't take long to sell the extra ones, makes people skip the waiting game and thats exactly what the resorts are doing.
I would have no fear of heading to the RGV on Jan 1st without a reservation, may not get in some parks but I know I would get in about 65% of them.

I can't imagine even the nice parks in the RGV all being full up for the season. Mine is a little different in that it caters to singles. I suppose others with a target group also get filled up quickly.

I got a map of available spots other than the one I reserved for my time slot in Casa Grande. There were only five others for my time frame so I guess some are filling up.
I think in my case they don't have a lot of 1 month openings as they would ( no surprise) want to fill with multiple month folks.
Good Luck this winter and happy trails

For the past two weeks, I have spent most days driving in one park or the other here in the Rockport Aransas Pass, Pt Aransas area, looking at parks and getting open dates for frinds that are coming down for the winter.
YOu can believe what you want , but in these areas, all the good parks are FULL and I was lucky enough to get one month at one park and another month at another park for the last friend that called.
On this very day, the park Im in has over 100 sites and is full up till Mar.
There is a new park The Estes and its sister park in Aransas Pass, both one year old or less, and they are full.
I have really no clue as to why, but they are doing a booming business down here.
If anyone needs a workamping position in Rockport, PM me and I an give you 3 parks that are looking for workampers and have been for several months. I will not say they are money makers, but it sometimes help with the income to get free rent.
However there are some open parks, if your not particular.

That is the true difficulty of the reservation process, you end up "attached" to people, places and even the amenities of a resort. This conundrum is faced by every RV owner at some time to some degree.
Do we use the transportability of an RV to experience new vistas and risk not being able to hook-up with friends of past years or do we keep going back to the same-old, same-old because it's "comfortable".
Gave up the RV because we never used it in the summer and it didn't make much sense driving the thing to the same destination to park it on the same site for 5 months every winter. Bought a property instead. New adventure, friends and surroundings starting this winter.
Never could bring ourselves to take that chance of heading south without reservations and always reserved at the place we knew so got locked into that routine for over 6 years and watched rigs roll in all winter long without reservations and still get a spot.
Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!
