We are currently traveling on PEI and have just spent 2 weeks in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. We have used Skype exclusively for our phone calls home. We paid for a month of service to call cell phones and landlines for about $3.00 and I have been able to call my 94 year old mother every night. We just make sure we are in a campground with Wi-Fi which has not been a problem. As to needing help on the road, although traffic is not particularly heavy and travel is easy through the provinces we have never been "all by ourselves" on the road. There has always been other cars that we could have called on to help.
