As long as your okay with paying the extra cost you can't go wrong with Camp Hatteras, campground is top notch! Our site was none premium, site 100 if I remember. As posted earlier, sites are good sized.

We are headed to Camp Hatteras for Labor Day weekend. Relatives are staying at North Beach Campground because it's cheaper, anyone know about this campground?

We drove thru Ocean Waves and KOA while we were there and the sites were just way to close for my liking.
I have to agree with everything said here. We were on site 39, 150 steps from the top of the dune, and we were not in the premier sites. Not cheap but we felt we got what we paid for and plan on staying 14 days next year. They also have sites on the sound side, I think 381 is the one you want if you can get it.
We drove through Ocean Waves, it's cheap, but we felt like we were in a canyon, it's a narrow CG with beach houses right up against you. OW does have some shaded sites but we'll never stay there at any price.
We have friends that stay at the KOA there and they like it, but it doesn't have paved sites.
Plan on buying drinking water if you do go.

Your right about the water, rumor is that they are on a well. This must be true because when we were there the electric went out and the water stopped. The CG staff said their well pump went out.
Actually the Rodanthe municipal water is as good as anyone's. Ask around and you will find the city water taps in the CG. Take some jugs and fill them for drinking.

I will be at Ocean Waves for Labor Day Weekend, not sure exactly which site I'll be in, but I know it's up at the end near the beach. I'm considering getting a shaded site for next Memorial & Labor Day Weekends...

I've been to the OBX three times...each time, at Ocean Waves. I love everything about this campground - the sites, the price, and especially the owners. I will stay there anytime I visit the OBX.
I've driven thru the KOA and Camp Hatteras...while they have more amenities (larger pools, miniature golf, etc)...I'm mainly there for the beach. IMO, the sites at Ocean Waves are just as nice at a much nicer price.

I agree with Camp Hatteras. The sites have lots of room compared to Beach Camping at Myrtle Beach. Had a large grass area behind the site where the kids could play when not on the beach. My wife and MIL started planning next year trip back there before we left.

Well i vote for Frisco Woods, we camped there the end of July and loved it. Our site was B22, our site backed up to the canal but still close to the sound that we could see beautiful sunsets. This year they had just put down new sod grass so we didn't have to put out our big rug, the grass was so soft. We have camped at Camp Hatteras and at Ocean Waves and Frisco Woods beat them both. We liked the fact the beach access was down the road because like the previous posts we have 4 X 4 and like to drive out on the beach for fishing and grilling out. Planning our trip to Frisco Woods for next July.
