Imbeciles and inconsiderates are everywhere. And it works both ways.

We just toured the historic Columbia River Gorge highway last weekend. We used the Jeep while the coach was across the river in an RV park. At several stops, such as Multnomah Falls etc., small cars were plastered all across BUS ONLY parking areas. There were typically 5 or 6 cars angle parked all along the BUS/RV markings. Must've been nice for RV'ers who came along and were aced out of stopping.

Many times, in rest areas, or even at Cascade Locks fish hatchery one time, I've seen cars sitting dead center in 70 foot long truck/bus/RV spots. The one at Cascade Locks was a late model Corvette. Yes, it WAS very tempting to: (fill in your favorite method of vandalism here)

I've lost track of the times I've started a swing-turn around a parked semi at a freeway rest stop, only to have to abort because of a VW camper van, a 19' class C, or a compact car towing a 4 foot long utility trailer sitting in the five-times-longer-than-they-are parking spot while my vision was blocked by the parked truck. I'm sure truckers just LOVE those same self-absorbed dimwits too.

Just got back from there, biggest complaint was the rude tour bus drivers. They park just anywhere and block everything, complain about anyone else that parks anywhere, and expect the whole world to move just for them.

Not trying to be a wise Guy but after 30 some years of RVing learned a few things, our new MH was made to look like a shuttle bus and we have no problems with parking it at bus lots at events or Parks.

Not talking about MH's. The actual tour buss drivers are jack rabbits. Here's an example....I was pulling out of a road side observation point, 1 ton truck, large truck camper, and small trailer. I am in the exit road waiting for traffic to clear so I can pull out onto the main road. Tour bus comes down main road to turn left into the pull out and before traffic clears he just makes the left and starts to pull in. He can't make the left fully into the road, I am there waiting to turn right, going the way he just came from. He stops, crossed in front of me, blocking traffic in both directions on the main road and blocking me.

Then he motions ME to back up so he can get in. There are cars behind me so I can't. Then he gets all pissed off and flipped me a bunch of hand signals.

Another example, a bus parked in the CAR area unloading and a truck and a camper pulled in behind him and parked in an actual RV slot along the outside of the parking area. That driver went to see the falls. The bus driver was ranting and raving about the "stupid idiots" that just park "anywhere". The RV was parked in a RV spot. The bus was crossing the entire car parking area and was pulled head into a handicap CAR parking spot.

I was at Old Faithful a couple of weeks ago, in toad, circling for a spot - a class a took up 4 spaces. Not a typo - yes, 4. Yikes, and it wasn't even a rental.

Just venting!!

But . . . Why?

If you need sympathy - ya got it!

If you wanted venting "company", ya got that too!

Feel better yet?
(Naw - your vent is good for some more of the "Old Faithful" to chime in! )

Considerate parking is not a strong point at alot of places.

Those of us driving a dually need alot of room. We are too wide for the side by side car bays & not really as long as a class C. Combine that with car drivers who are too lazy/inconsiderate to park within lines & parking with a 1 ton can be interesting.

In places like Yellowstone I'll park in the RV section if the carpark is tight. Usually I'll look for a C that has pulled forward in the RV bay & park behind him or park so that there is room for a B or C behind me. A two for one. At Walmart I'll just park out aways & not wory about taking up multiple spaces. I need the walk anyhow & I am too lazy to shoehorn 22' of truck between 2 cars just to save myself 10 seconds worth of walk.

Simple solution: Go to Yellowstone (and other national parks) AFTER Labor Day, preferably mid-week! Most of those with school age children will be gone, alleviating the crowding problem.

That's our plan. Hope it works!

I suspect if you have driven a bus from L.A. to Yellowstone with a load of annoying cackling foreign tourists that want to eat strange food, don't speak English, and have to stop at every wide spot in the road for a thousand miles, you might not be the most considerate or pleasant person in Yogi Bear Land when some old blue hair in a motorhome is trying to turn left in heavy Park traffic!
Rushing from feature to feature at Yellowstone in an RV is NOT an intelligent idea--take a toad.

That about sums it up for a lot of places. Plant the RV somewhere, take the toad. That's why you dragged it along for hundreds of miles, ain't it?!?

That's what we did for our 9 days on the Oregon coast trip. (That we just returned from) Try exploring Astoria Oregon in an RV! Yeah, right, the little town has streets with better than 20% grades. A large coach wouldn't even get past the angled transition zone from level to hill without getting hung up on the back end. And I doubt it would climb it either.

Cape Disappointment and other such places too. RV parking spaces are about non existent, and the roads are steep and winding.

Most coastal towns are old, with narrow streets built during the model T era, and parking that's hard enough to get with a Jeep, let alone an RV. Seaside for example, it's easier to forget the car, and just rent a pedal vehicle instead.

I'm thinking in national parks especially, parking and sight-seeing access are major reasons to take a toad. If you don't have one, rent a car and see it that way.

It takes all kinds to create the parking problems. There are the 'drive by' visitors trying to see a months worth of sights in one week. The motorcycle riders who insist on taking up one car space each when one would do. The ego car drivers who think that because they paid more for their expensive cars they are entitled to multiple spaces so their sides won't get dinged. The perfectly healthy people who park in handicapped spots just cause they have a sticker for a family member. Lazy people who just can't walk a few extra steps. Class B owners using truck/large RV areas in rest areas. Thoughtless people who take up the space of two at scenic turnouts because they don't care about anyone else.

It goes on. Too bad many of them do not live in a place where parking is at a premium & parking with consideration for others is ingrained into them.
