We were looking for campgrounds in lower Michigan or the Indiana area with canoeing and hiking. When we were at Sleeping Bear Dunes earlier this summer, the rivers were so clean and clear and perfect for canoeing but we didn't want to go that far north. We were wondering if anyone had any recommendations of other places. Thanks!

Ludington SP is good for canoeing, a little south of Sleeping Bear. Beautiful park, also has lots of hiking trails. Good luck getting a reservation, though! Very popular, and for good reason.

You can camp at the White River campground in Hamilton County just north of Indy and pick up a canoe in Nobelsville. If you have your own, there is a canoe launch at the campground and the White River is pretty nice to canoe on. Not much hiking there though.
In Northern Indiana there is Chain O Lakes State Park where you can canoe through several interconnecting lakes and they do have some hiking trails.

You might look into camping at Trailway CG in Montague, MI and put your canoe into White Lake or the White River. Never did it but it might be worthwhile checking it out.

Turkey Run!! Hiking is amazing. Canoeing - maybe not so much, but it's fun (and if it's been a dry year, it's a workout). Just south of Crawfordsville - c'mon on down!
