I'm finally going solar on my WW, I found a sunwize 80w panel for a good deal on craigslist, then I found these

should 280 watts work pretty well with 2 or 4 6 volt batts?
Its a pretty good deal especially with the free mppt controller

Hi,
The rule of thumb is 60 to 150 watts of panels per 100 amp-hours of battery bank (@ 12 volts).
The SunSaver SS-MPPT-15L maxes out at 200 watts--so the 80 watt panel can not be used.

My understanding a really good deal on a solar installation can be found at the Slabs, NE corner of the Salton Sea area, in the winter time. I plan on checking it out myself this winter. Also deals can be found at Quartzsite, AZ in the winter time.

So if I have two group 27 12v batteries, is the package in the link with the included MPPT work to keep both batteries charging?
I just wish there was one well written page to address this.

Hi Gary,
Two group 27 batteries would have a combined capacity of between 160 and 210 amp-hours. The 200 watts of panels planed on may well do a good job of keep them charged.

I've got (I think) (2) 80watt panels on the coach. Got it as the original 12v system and it worked well.

So if I buy this "kit":

Is this all I need then? I would mount this to my roof, run the cable to the MPPT and the wire the MPPT to the batter, correct?

Hi Gary,
Yes, but be sure to "over size" the wire to get every watt you are paying for. It may also allow you to add more capacity in the future.
