Well we just got back from a very interesting week. We had gone down to Fort Mcallister state park around Savannah, and our F250 was red lineing as we were pulling into our site upon arrival. My husband opened the hood and the coolant was full of beige goo. He thought at once there was a strong possibility we had a creacked block. No oil,no coolant. Here we are this far from home. we had the truck towed to the dealership. We were very fortunate however that the dealership we were closest too happened to be one of the largest diesal specialists' in the southeast. But I'm sure that alot of people can relate to that sick feeling realizing that you know the repair cost is going to be pretty bad. but with kids we rented a car and made the best we could of our trip. The state park by the way is very nice and I would highly recommend it. The kids got to fish every day and we went out to Tybee. Well the dealership kept us up everyday with progress, and when all was said and done it was the ERG valve which as my husband told me has a notorious reputation for breaking. So the ERG valve failed and in turn the oil pump and because of the oil going into the coolant, the tech suggested we replace the radiator.(that goo was all thru the radiator). Our truck is at 100,000 so we went ahead and did that. But thank the Lord no cracked block. It was expensive enough with that. The bottom line is that I am so thankful that God got us to the campground and we were not stranded out on I-16, we were in our little home, and not a hotel. I'm sure we would have had our camper towed on in to our campground, but the thought of having to do all that wow.

Wow is right! Glad it worked out that you could get it fixed properly and still camp.

A bad experience that could have much worse, but ended well. You did great to relax and be so positive about a pretty negative situation. Bless you!

I feel your pain, excpet mine was the FICM at the tune of $1250 including the tow. On the way home, the turbo vanes stuck open and created to much boost or something along that line and had to limp last 30 miles in electronic reduced mode, which almost overheated the truck. It was also noted that I was losing coolant at both dealers and the mechanic said it was most like the beginning of the EGR failure. So went to my dealer and priced 2011's and since they gave me more than 2/3's of what I paid for the 05 in trade in, I picked up the new 2011 last Friday. The biggest reason for the new truck is the warrantee. I was 4 days over the 5 years in the 05, and only 54000 miles on the odometer and they would not fix it under warrantee....

Ford Quility and consumer satisfaction is No.1. Got a 06 with problems too. Runs out of warrenty in Oct. with only 54000 mls. Ford with their "consumer satisfaction" said buy an extended warrenty.

A couple years back were towing from NY to VA Beach, it was August and HOT!! Well, the a/c gave out in Delaware, compressor was done. Stuck in traffic in Baltimore due to an accident, just sitting there in the sun with all the windows down and baking!!
Got it into RK Chevy in Va Beach, we rented a Toyota Matrix to sightsee in. The compressor blew up and sent parts downstream and took out parts of both the front and rear a/c systems. Bottom line, it was in the shop for over a week, $1100 later we were driving home in frosty comfort.
Kinda like the trip to NC that had us in Smoky Mountain Chevy for a crank sensor. I tell my wife it wouldn't be a real RV adventure without a trip to the local Chevy dealer. Reminds me of the time we got permission to dry camp on DD's college campus for parents weekend. Wake up Sat morning, get in the shower, no water. Looking for an RV place to buy a water pump....can't plan for these wrinkles, just hafta go with the flow, it's part of the fun!!
