We are planning next summer to take an extended 3 month trip up thru Alberta and British Columbia. Does anyone know if the Boost phone service works up there? What about an air card. My husband will need to be online occasionaly for business purposes and I don't know if we should get a Boost air card or another. Anyone have any suggestions of what works?
Thanks in advance,
Janet

Your best bet it to contact Boost and ask them.

In BC cell service tends to exist in and near larger cities and towns, and a bit along major highways. The three main providers are Telus, Bell and Rogers. All sell Air cards but whether you can get one for a short term I do not know.

Your other option is to use hot spots and free wifi where it is available.

The Canadian "Internet" system is far better than in the US in rural areas. A number of years ago the Canadian government put Internet into all(?), at least everywhere I have been, small communities. Most are in the community library or town building. Some I have had to go inside to use but most work from their parking lot. Now where there is not a community, no Internet for the most part, one you get away from the more populated areas along the border. If you can't get cell service, then the air cards don't work either for the most part. The most I have ever gone if recent years without Internet service is a couple of days when we are dry camping somewhere in northern Canada or rural Alaska. The bigger towns in both countries have excellent cell and Internet service. Internet is usually free and the cell can get costly depending on your phone carrier. With that said, I turn my cell phone off when we get to the Canadian border, I am on vacation. Anyone that needs to communicate with me can send an email and I will check that every few days.
Life does exist without cell/Internet service, I made 9 RV round trips to/from Alaska before the days of "instant" communications. The world kept turning just fine without my input. LOL

Never heard of Boost. Check with them to see if they have a Canadian Plan. Roaming can be expensive when you cross a border.

Thanks for the replies. I believe Boost is an off-spring of Sprint but not sure of that. Like Joe, the phone we can do without but we do all banking and our Mobile Home park in Mississippi is handled alot over internet with our manager. We will be staying in mainly tourist stops ie; Jasper, Banff etc and just need to check it every couple of days. But as suggested I will check with Boost or one of the Canadian companies suggested. Thanks all....you guys are great as usual.

For sure, there is network coverage in Alberta and near urban centres in British Columbia (the mountains block the signal from distant towers in BC). So the question is whether you can roam on the Bell/Telus or Rogers networks with Boost, and I think only Boost would know that.

I do know that Boost uses the Sprint network, not sure if they are actually affiliated with them or just lease from them. I don't know about their coverage into Canada, but suspect if Sprint works up there so shouldn't Boost. But I'd also recommend you contact Boost and find out directly from them...

You might consider just buying a prepaid calling card and using a pay phone to check in with the business.
