Maybe it is also time to upgrade the truck to something that is more capable of towing the Luxury fiver you want. By Luxury do you mean Mobile Suites or new Cardinal luxury?

Look for rigs with the heavy "luxuries" rearward of the 5ver axles - like get a rear galley for example. Since you seem to be equating 'luxury' with additional weight, what are you defining as "luxury"? Many options add a good deal of weight but might not be considered luxuries to all - like patio awnings, genset etc. Or consider a beefier truck?

Your truck won't have any problems hauling the pin weight from a 30' 5er nor will it have any issues pulling a 30' 5er. You should look around a little and see waht others are towing with a 2500 GM truck and are within their trucks axle/tire ratings which are certified by GM.
Trucks carry weight on their axle/tires. GM gives your truck a 6084 RAWR. Use it. That will require you weighing the trucks front axle and rear axle. Many 2500 GM trucks will have a rear unladin weight of approx 2800 lbs which leaves 3200 lbs for a max payload. Figuring a hitch weight and a percent of the 500 lbs you mention and your looking at approx 2500-2600 lbs of pin weight.
GM gives your 2500 truck up to 15000+ lb tow rating, depending on truck configuration. Use it.

According to the door tag on my 2008 Silverado 2500HD, ECSB, 4x4, the GVWR is 9200 lbs. The last time I weighed my truck with full fuel and me and the wife, it weighed 7300 lbs. To me that leaves 1900 lbs for the hitch, pin weight, and whatever else we bring.
I understand the argument of the axle weight ratings, but to max that, you are essentially overloading the truck, the way I read it.

... and that is why many here end up with a 1 ton truck in either a SRW or DRW. The newer 5ers tend to overload 3/4 ton trucks.

Luxury and low pin weight do not go together. Also, Montana is a mid line RV, not high end. High ends are Carriage, Hitch Hiker, Excel, Mobile Suites, etc and they are heavier than a Montana.
Sounds like you have a 3/4 ton truck and to get wher e you want to be, you really need a 1 ton dually.

OK, all the 250/2500 towing over your GVWR but under rear GAWR pull over and park on the side of the road. DW: "honey why are there all those rigs park on the side of the road? I counted over 100 in the last mile!"

challeno wrote: ,,,I'm a little confused on the 1900 part,,,,,your payload/pin weight should be a lot more than that with a 2500 truck ??? But in that range Keystone makes some nice Cougars well under 1900 pin/hitch weight.
Payload .... Hum .... Yes the Sales Literature Numbers look good for most Trucks, but that rating is a Base Truck - NO Options.
Want to Know your Real 'remaining' Payload (Legal Payload, Fill your Trucks Fuel Tank and go Weigh your Truck. Subtract that weight from the Trucks actual GVWR (posted on VIN Sticker on the Drivers Door). Now you know exactly what you have left for Payload (you (driver), additional passengers, cargo in the Truck Cab and Bed, Pin weight AND don't forget that 5th wheel Hitch weighs a little too.
Everyone seems to go by the Payload Capacity as listed in the Manufactures Sale Literature - That number is the MAX POSSIBLE Payload - a Base Truck No options.
Weigh your Truck, no matter if it's a 1500(F150), 2500(F250), or 3500 (F350)and do the Math (GVWR - My Trucks Real Weight = True (legal) Payload.

If you are looking for Luxury with a light weight under 30-32ft you might consider a Carriage Domani or a Nuwa Hitchhiker LS. Both of these models are loaded and quite high-end luzury models while being smaller.
Nuwa for 2011 is specifically building it's LS II smaller and lighter units striving for quality and luxury with a lighter weight. With the new 2011 27ft HH LS likely around 12K GVWR you may keep your pin weight under 2K lbs.
Carriage no longer makes new Domani's but they are certainly luxurious and on the small side around 30ft with gvwr of under 12K lbs
Good luck in your hunt for a light weight luxury unit that will work with your truck.
While you will be way under your RAWR and 2K lb pin weight would be likely the very max if keeping your TV under it's GCWR is important to you.

Good one Chris - Yes, I would agree with this too. I would venture to say that a lot of 3/4 and even 1 Ton Trucks that are pulling 5th wheels are over their Trucks GVWR.
