We once camped next to a mountain stream and had mice the second night. Left that day and at home ended up catching 25 over the next four nights. Yuk!
We've since had one or two at a time while camp hosting in the Colorado mountains but by staying vigilant we haven't been infested since. If we see any evidence we break out the traps immediately. We do use the peppermint oil as a preventative measure and it's worked pretty good.

Be careful out west when it comes to mice!

I'm not sure of exact numbers but the last time I was in Utah & Wyoming I talked to the DNR and they said that out of the whole meece population there were more infected with the Hantavirus than those that weren't.

That includes their droppings. Scary stuff.

Yes, and vacuuming mice droppingswould be a bad thing to do because it can make the Hantavirus airborne and more easily transmitted via inhalation.

IIRC, 1:9 clorox (or stronger) should be used for clean up. Wet the contaminated surfaces with the solution and wipe up the wet debris with towels, then properly dispose of all clean-up materials.

The clorox solution should be disgarded at the end of the day and a fresh batch made daily.

There's an abudance of material on the internet that specifically addresses this virus and the cleanup porcedures.
