If your just south west of Spokane.... your best bet is to head straight north up the Okanagan Valley on 97 and then at Prince George west on Hwy 16 to Kitwanga and then North up 37.
Myself, just living north of Spokane a few hours I have made many a trip north and have a good idea on the best way up and back. Yes the traffic will be a little heavy through Kelowna and Penticton but there are no Mountain Passes and easy driving if you don't mind a bit of slow traffic through the Okanogan. The US / Canadian border crossing at Osoyoos ( Hwy 97) is open 24hrs.
From where I live which is about 3.5 hrs north of you, I can do PG in 12 hrs ( not tugging a RV, and no site seeing)

The north end of the Cassiar is closed. This may change any day.
The Alaska Highway has been closed in the past due to fires, too.
Best advice at the moment is to check the highway closures when you're in Prince George to determine which route is the better option. My feeling is most effort would be made to keep the Alaska Highway open as it is a major transportation route with many more residents along the way.

Thanks Sue, I just saw that on TV and on the Hwy Report.
This year has been a wet one around here thats for sure. We can still have campfires down in our little corner of BC, lets hope the fires in the rest of BC come under control.

Greetings from Whitehorse!!! Got here this am, loaded up the "broken" pickup and will be heading back Tues morning. Took 95/93 north through parks, and then AB40 to 97. What a ride!! Felt like I was on I5 at times. My visions of the "Alcan" have been severely beatup!! But then again it was a weekend, and with the fires, I suspect it may have been a bit more busy due to that.
Due to those fires in BC, looks like I will be going back the same way. May take the middle route down 97, miss the parks.
Thanks for the help, and hope I don't "run" into any of you on the highway!!!!

It wasn't a holiday weekend in the Yukon - ours is 2 weeks yet.
