I realize that the answer to this question will be as varied as the people who answer it but I thought it might be interesting to ask regardless.
How do you define camping?
Quote: Camping is an outdoor recreational activity. The participants (known as campers) leave urban areas, their home region, or civilization and enjoy nature while spending one or several nights outdoors, usually at a campsite, which may have cabins. Camping may involve the use of a tent, caravan, a primitive structure, or no shelter at all.

As someone who has been camping and backpacking since he was maybe 12 years old, I don't consider RVing to be camping. But I do use the term that way at times. I just never feel comfortable about it. To me camping is in a tent. Or if you are really roughing it, just sleeping under the stars.
But sometimes when there is not a good word to describe something another word is borrowed. Just look up some words in a good dictionary and you will see a string of meanings they have had over the years.
So if someone says to you, "What are you doing this weekend," "Going camping" flows much more easily than "Taking the RV out to the mountains." To say, "Going RVing" just doesn't seem quite proper. People might then ask "What's that."
Maybe we need to create some way of saying what it is that we do. But I suspect the word "camping" has lost it's original meaning and RVers will continue to use it for sleeping in their home away from home. And if you are driving a big DP with multiple slideouts, marble countertops, wide screen TVs, etc, you are really taking your house with you. Not camping.

I RV in a MH. It never fails to amaze me that people still call my MH a camper.
As the camping interest grew over the years, so did the ways and means people got 'to' the camping. The types of vehicles used took gigantic leaps as to comfort and ease of traveling to the destination for real camping. Over the years I think the pleasure part of the traveling part in these new vehicles took over and most just started eliminating the final destination of real camping.
My light bulb moment regarding 'how' some people camp was my first trip to an RV resort where people where parked like sardines and 'totally' enjoying 'their' camping experience. Me, I use the CG's for sleeping at night along my path of travels. Having never had a home with less than 10 ac I found the whole CG experience, let's just say very interesting.

I like traveling with my own vacation cabin in tow.. It has a changeable view which is a real bonus.. We park often at places where campers stay.

I call it camping although it is not even close to a genuine camping experience! I look at our rv as a portable house that I use to avoid nasty motels while taking my family places to see new things.
