I have searched the forums and have noticed that people have changed out their struts under their bed for higher rated ones. Appears primarily due to the installed ones not being strong enough to support mattress and mattress topper.
Mine are strong enough for the above, but getting access is a pain. I'm not sure of the length of the struts when extended only that they are not long enough! Difficult to use this space because I have to kill my back to get to stuff.
Anyone ever change out their struts to longer ones? If so, anything I should be aware of?
Thanks,
Jeff

I assume you are speaking of the struts that hold the mattress up while you access the storage space under the bed. If you can't find the struts you're looking for you could just prop it up with rod such as used under a car hood. Then when you want to lower it just lay the rod down in the storage space.

Most automotive stores supply these struts in many different lengths and strengths. Careful though, they don't always have the same connector on the end. Best to take one of yours with you.
In our TT, one of the struts first got bent, and then never did have the support required to keep the bed up. Replaced both.

It's a fairly simple job to reposition your present strut to give you a larger access. Generally, you will be placing BOTH attachment points closer to the hinge end. If you need specific info this is a good site McMaster-Carr

I changed mine for longer ones. I had to move one of the brackets on each side for optimum effect. It's an easy job. Just be sure you have someone to help you hold up the bed frame.

WE have a local RV supply house that had many different struts. I needed a strut with more poundage. They let me try out several until I settled with a set of 120 pounders.
