I notice several users can reply to a post and have the post they are replying to in their post surrounded by dashes. How do I do that? I have looked at my profile and preferences and can not seem to find where I can set that ability up.

In the upper-right portion of every post there is a set of links. One of them is the Quote link. When you click on it, a new message window is opened with the contents of that post included with the necessary tags to produce the quote box you see.

Of course, you can only quote posts in threads that are not closed.

Another handy feature of the "quote" tool: You can delete as much as you want from the quoted material, as long as you leave the bracketed "quote= …" and ending “/quote” in place.

This is useful when you want to respond to only a specific part of a post, as I often do. It’s also handy to delete images in the prior post which, once seen in the thread, don’t need to be seen again.
